Principal Electrical Engineer or Senior Principal Electrical Engineer position in the Huntsville Hardware Engineering functional department. This position will support one or more projects performing design engineering for integration of Command and Control systems, such as radios, networks, antennas, and power equipment, in support of Department of Defense projects. The selected candidate will work in a dynamic people-focused environment where he/she will interact with production, program management, service providers, equipment suppliers, and customers. Primary responsibilities are cable harnesses design, power analysis, and interconnect diagrams for COTS and GFE equipment.  Additional tasks include research, development, design, and testing of electrical components, equipment, systems, and networks.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical or computer science engineering or related STEM degree

  • Minimum 5 years experience (for level 3) or 9 years experience (for level 4) in electrical design engineering

  • Experience supporting designs in production, fabrication, and test

  • General knowledge of product design, integration of subsystems that include network communication (Wired and Wireless), power design and distribution, interconnect diagrams, and wire harness/cable design

  • Experience in performance of trade studies to identify components that meet system and subsystem requirements.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Visio, Cameo, AutoCAD, and NX

  • Ability to support periodic travel to customer sites in the continental United States.

  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly to both technical and nontechnical personnel.

  • Ability to obtain a Secret Security Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with system and facility grounding and bonding.

  • Understanding of the following MIL Standards;

    • MIL-STD-461

    • MIL-STD-464

    • MIL-STD-188-124

    • MIL-STD-1275

  • Experience designing cable harnesses using MIL circular styles connectors, MIL-DTL-38999 (Series 1, 2, and 3), MIL-DTL-5051, MIL_DTL-22992, MIL-DTL-83526, and MIL-C-85049

  • Experience designing systems using single and multimode fiber optics.

  • Experience with RF related to radio design, tactical radio systems, and amplifier/antenna fundamentals.

  • Experience using PLM/PDM and MRP Systems.

  • Understanding of IPC-620 Workmanship Standards.

  • Proven track record in development of power solutions (AC, DC, Vehicle Power Systems, Battery, Solar).

  • Proven problem-solving skills to rapidly address issues identified during production and installation.

  • Experience with managed network devices and systems.

  • Experience with wireless point-to-point, point-to-multipoint, and multipoint communication devices and systems.

  • Experience in leading small product development groups.

  • Experience in working in an autonomous work environment on complex projects.

  • Experience in working on business or engineering full-cycle projects from project inception through system sustainment.

Primary Level Salary Range: $108,800.00 - $163,200.00

Secondary Level Salary Range: $135,800.00 - $203,600.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
