Overview
This position reports directly to the Vice President of Human Resources. The Director of Security is a senior level position responsible for providing leadership, guidance and direction to the BIW Security department. The Director is responsible to manage day to day activities and ensure compliance with all programmatic, regulatory, legal and contractual requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Safety Leadership:
- Manage safety performance of Security Personnel
- Ensure consistent Security safety standards and procedures across facilities
- Address systemic safety concerns and implement standardized solutions
- Project Execution:
- Responsible to ensure that the organizations maintain a record of satisfactory compliance in the areas of physical and IT/Network infrastructure security, Security and Contracts Administration, National Industrial Security Program and all local, state and federal laws.
- Security Management:
- Assume leadership role in managing serious threats or events involving risk of injury and/or loss of life, damage and/or destruction of property or the penetration of physical or network infrastructure.
- Oversee and manage all BIW Security (routine and emergency) activities and responsibilities, including: Uniformed Security operations, Security Compliance and contract administration, investigations, and special/international programs.
- Responsible for ensuring that individuals in all areas are properly equipped and trained to perform in such a way, as to fully support and compliment the operational, schedule, strategic and business objectives of the company.
- Represent the company as the senior Security official during the planning and execution of key company events including Christenings, Open Houses, Keel Laying's and all other events requiring liaison and coordination with internal BIW organizations and external (local, state and federal) law enforcement and first responder organizations.
- Training and Development:
- Improve workforce capabilities by identifying needed training and development.
- Lead and develop succession planning and professional development within the organization.
- Manage performance and reinforce desired workforce values and behaviors.
- Team Collaboration and Communication:
- Establish and communicate work expectations; assess overall workforce performance and productivity; and positively motivate the workforce.
- Respond to the needs of external agencies and coordinate with and support all BIW & GD Corporate Office/internal organizations.
- Develop and maintain relationships with local, state and federal law enforcement leadership and Government officials including auditors and regulators (DSS and NAVSEA, Naval Reactors and SupShip, etc.).
- Continuous Improvement:
- Oversee innovation and continuous improvement efforts within the organization.
- Apply consistent BOS principles across areas.
Responsibilities
- Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred.
Qualifications
- 10 years' experience in the DoD Defense Industrial Security Program (DISP) and Plant Protection preferred; minimum of 5 years managerial experience required.
- Ability to obtain a TOP SECRET SSBI clearance required.
- Working knowledge of the National Industrial Security Program Operating manual (NISPOM) preferred.
- Established/strong relationships with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies, NAVSEA, and SupShip preferred.
- Demonstrated management, project coordination and leadership skills required. Strong written, oral communications and organizational skills required.
- Proficiency with computers including Microsoft Office products required.
- Ability and willingness to work in, and promote a true team environment.
- Successful experience in implementing and monitoring continuous improvement initiatives to improve safety, improve quality, reduce cycle time, and reduce costs.
