Controls Engineering Technical Program Leader

Full Time Remote

Summary

Job Description

Job Description Summary

Have you ever wondered what makes a turbofan engine so cool? Some people think it’s the fan, or the high- or low-pressure turbines, or the combustor, or even the augmenter on military engines. On our team, we think it’s the integrated control system logic, software  and hardware system that can readily respond to pilot inputs while still providing safe, reliable, and fuel-efficient thrust to complete the mission.

In this role, you will lead technical program execution for advanced aircraft engine controls efforts supporting Military Advanced Technology and New Product Introduction (NPI) programs. Work spans early science and technology maturation through development, validation, qualification, and delivery of next-generation engine controls solutions for military applications.

You will also help drive business outcomes through FLIGHT DECK, GE Aerospace’s proprietary operating model, by applying the FLIGHT DECK Fundamentals and Behaviors to improve execution and deliver results through the eyes of the customer. This includes using Standard Work, Daily & Visual Management, Operating Cadences, Action Planning, and Problem Solving to improve Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost performance.

If you have a passion for delivering integrated hardware and software solutions, leading cross-functional teams, and solving complex technical problems in support of advanced military propulsion applications, we encourage you to apply.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Lead technical program execution for aircraft engine controls initiatives supporting Military Advanced Technology and NPI programs.
  • Lead cross-functional coordination across systems, software, hardware, mechanical design, and program teams to deliver controls solutions that meet technical, schedule, quality, and cost objectives.
  • Use FLIGHT DECK to drive business outcomes by connecting team execution to Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost (SQDC) priorities and customer expectations.
  • Establish and improve team execution through Standard Work to document and sustain the best-known way to perform key processes and enable continuous improvement.
  • Use Daily & Visual Management and operating cadences to visualize targets and results, track progress to goals, expose gaps, create actions when off plan, and escalate issues with urgency.
  • Drive controls requirements development, architecture definition, logic design, integration, validation, qualification, and release activities.
  • Use understanding of key business drivers and how the work of the team integrates with other teams to accomplish program objectives.
  • Make decisions within a defined framework and resolve issues requiring good technical knowledge and judgment within established procedures
  • Lead and mentor engineers and, where applicable, serve as a customer interface, develop strong customer relationships, and explain technical information to others.
  • Assure proper documentation of technical data generated for assigned projects and/or tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures.
  • Participate as a presenter or reviewer in technical and program reviews.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited university.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience related to aircraft engine controls systems and software development.
  • This role requires the successful candidate to obtain and maintain US Government Security Clearance; prerequisite for a security clearance is U.S. citizenship.

Desired Characteristics

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Familiarity with NPSS simulation tools.
  • Demonstrated experience leading complex technical programs, integrated product teams, or cross-functional engineering work scopes
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a structured team environment.
  • Passion for developing aircraft engine controls methodologies including hardware and software integration, requirements development and documentation, logic design, development and validation, and support for the product software release process.
  • Demonstrated ability to use FLIGHT DECK Fundamentals and Behaviors to improve team execution and drive business results through Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost outcomes.
  • Experience applying Standard Work, Daily & Visual Management, Action Planning, and Problem Solving to improve process performance, accountability, and gap closure.
  • Interest in working in an environment and on projects that cannot necessarily be shared broadly.
  • Relevant experience developing engine controls systems requirements.
  • Relevant experience developing engine controls logic utilizing MATLAB/Simulink environment and related toolset.
  • Relevant experience coaching and mentoring lesser experienced engineers to develop engine controls logic.
  • Relevant experience documenting controls system logic and software development processes.
