CNC Support Technician

Full Time Remote

Summary

Job Description

Company Overview

Allen Control Systems (ACS) is a cutting-edge defense startup, founded by two former Navy electrical engineers with a proven track record in robotics and software. We are developing a small, autonomous gun turret that employs advanced computer vision and control systems to precisely target and neutralize small drones and loitering munitions. Our innovative approach requires overcoming significant technical challenges, making this an exciting and dynamic environment for experienced engineers.

With an engineering-first culture, ACS values technical excellence and innovation. Backed by our founders' successful exits from two previous ventures acquired for a combined $180M in 2022, we are committed to ensuring that the groundbreaking technologies we develop will have a real-world impact.

Position Overview

Allen Control Systems is seeking an eager, hands-on CNC Support Technician to join our team in a developmental role. This position is perfect for someone with a strong mechanical foundation who is ready to take ownership of shop cleanliness, machine preparation, and basic maintenance. You will work directly under our experienced team, learning the ropes of a high-speed production environment while ensuring our machine shop remains organized and efficient. We are looking for a practical 'fixer' who enjoys hands-on work and is eager to develop their technical skills in CNC operations through direct experience and mentorship.

What You’ll Do:

  • Shop Upkeep: Take pride in maintaining a world-class machine shop by ensuring floors, benches, and machines stay clean and organized to support manufacturing.
  • Machine Preparation: Assist in daily machine warm-ups, coolant level checks, and chip removal to keep our CNC equipment running smoothly.
  • Tooling & Assembly: Support the team by assembling workbenches, industrial racking, and basic shop furniture as we scale our facility.
  • Basic Repairs: Under supervision, perform light mechanical repairs and learn to troubleshoot shop equipment.
  • Hardware Management: Maintain and organize the inventory of tools, drill bits, and hardware so the shop never slows down.
  • Material Handling: Assist in receiving materials and moving components between the machine shop and production floor.
  • Documentation: Keep simple, accurate logs of maintenance tasks and safety checks to ensure a safe workspace.

What You'll Need:

  • Eagerness to Learn: A self-motivated mindset and a genuine interest in CNC machining and defense technology.
  • Mechanical Aptitude: Comfortable using basic hand tools and power tools; you likely enjoy taking things apart to see how they work.
  • Reliability: A strong work ethic and the "extreme ownership" needed to manage the physical needs of the shop independently.
  • Communication: Clear verbal communication and the ability to follow technical instructions accurately.
  • Physical Readiness: Ability to perform hands-on work in a machine shop and manufacturing environment.
  • Education/Experience: A high school diploma or equivalent; any exposure to trade schools, shop classes, or hobbyist mechanics is a major plus.

What We Offer:

  • Competitive salary
  • ACS Equity Package
  • Health, Dental, and Vision Insurance
  • Paid Time Off
  • Mentorship: Direct access to experienced machinists and a front-row seat to the development of cutting-edge robotics.
