Business Operations Specialist

Hawthorne, California, United States
Full Time On-site

Summary

Job Description

Role Overview:

“Operations” means different things at different companies. At CHAOS, it means real-world problem solving to help us win. We are building a Business Operations team that will deploy on complex problems involving multiple areas of our business. We will embed with other teams to learn as much as possible about a problem, work together to make it better, and then move on to the next project. You might make sense for this role if:

  • You’ve excelled in a high-execution environment. I don’t care if you’ve done this exact role before, but I do care that you’ve thrived somewhere that expects a lot of you. Examples include specialized military units, top law firms or investment banks, professional sports, world-class musicians, or fast-paced startups. You’ve seen, and contributed to, excellence. Amazing grades at a demanding school is nice, but it’s not enough. Some experience in the workforce is necessary.
  • You’re not afraid of math or software that does math. Almost every problem you deal with will involve math of some sort (counting is math!). You will be expected to come up with ways to measure truth in the business (MBAs call these “metrics”) and look at that truth in many different ways (they call that “analysis”). To do this, you’ll need things like Excel or Palantir Foundry or maybe even some Python.
  • You’re intellectually curious. You read. You read books. You love understanding different parts of the world and you seek out information when things catch your interest. Your projects at CHAOS will never involve a single, narrowly scoped topic. You’ll have to learn about different parts of our business and be curious enough to seek out all the nuances and gray areas.
  • You’re a student of people and how they work. You know that almost every problem involves a people component and that understanding why humans do things and how to get them to change their behavior is often the key to solving problems.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with business units to translate company-level goals into functional objectives and measurable deliverables
  • Design metrics and systems for calculating, tracking, and reporting on those metrics
  • Analyze our results and use that analysis to make suggestions for how to improve
  • Deep dive into business areas and become a subject matter expert as quickly as possible
  • Help teams create an operating cadence
  • Resolve execution friction between teams
  • Support executive leadership with prep, analysis, and follow-through
  • Drive accountability without direct authority
  • Act as a trusted operator and problem solver

Minimum Requirements:

  • 3–7+ years in a high-execution role, such as operations, strategy, program management, or consulting
  • Exceptional cross-functional coordination and executive communication
  • Strong analytical and structured thinking
  • Comfortable pushing senior leaders
  • Excellent written and verbal clarity
  • Advanced Excel / Google Sheets
  • Comfort with ambiguity and incomplete data
  • Ability/willingness to travel between our offices (LA/SF/DC) up to once a month

Preferred Requirements:

  • Background in hardware, defense, aerospace, infrastructure, or complex tech environments is a plus

Why CHAOS?

  • Health Benefits: Medical, dental, and vision benefits 100% paid for by the company
  • Additional benefits: 401k (+ 50% company match up to 6% of pay), FSA, HSA, life insurance, and more
  • Our Perks: Free daily lunch, ‘No meeting Fridays’, unlimited PTO, casual dress code
  • Compensation Components: Competitive base salaries, generous pre-IPO stock option grants, relocation assistance, and (coming soon!) annual bonuses
  • Team Growth: 250 employees and counting across 5 global offices
Salary Range: $120,000 - $160,000

The stated compensation range reflects only the targeted base compensation range and excludes additional earnings such as bonus, equity, and benefits. If your compensation requirements fall outside of the range, we still encourage you to apply. The salary range for this role is an estimate based on a range of compensation factors, inclusive of base salary only. Actual salary offer may vary based on (but not limited to) work experience, education and/or training, critical skills, and/or business considerations.

Recruiting Agencies: CHAOS Industries does not accept unsolicited resumes or outreach. Unsolicited submissions will not be reviewed or compensated.
