Northrop Grumman Defense Systems has an exciting opportunity for an Analytical Chemist located at the Allegany Ballistics Laboratory (ABL) near Cumberland, MD. In this role, you will report directly to the Analytical Testing Manager and will be responsible for overseeing the Lab Information Management System Raw Materials Module. You will assist Quality, Receiving Inspection, and Configuration Management in ensuring specification compliance for incoming materials and shelf-life extensions. You will also play a critical role in monitoring the workflow and striving to continuously improve the safety, quality, and efficiency of the system and the lab overall. It is likely that you may also become involved with investigating material issues that affect the quality of our product. Your skills in basic wet chemistry as well as FTIR, microscopy, chromatography, and thermal analysis techniques will be utilized regularly in this role. Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor level degree in Chemistry and 2 years of experience or a Masters Degree in Chemistry and 0 years of experience.
- Formal training with a Lab Information Management System.
- Detail oriented and responsive to quality systems and requirements.
- Able to read and interpret government specifications and draft procedures for analytical testing.
- Experience working in an analytical lab and writing and completing lab work orders.
- Comfortable with and competent in communicating with management, engineers, chemists, and external vendors.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety within the workplace.
