Northrop Grumman Space Systems Sector, Eastern Region Engineering, is hiring a qualified Principal or Senior Principal Mission Engineer for missions within the Space Superiority Division. Successful candidates for this position will work in a technical role for space and ground programs in Dulles, VA. This position offers the opportunity to work on exciting, cutting-edge programs and new mission areas in the following areas to support next generation space capabilities.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • CONOPS and Mission Analysis

  • Systems Level Integration and Test

  • Mission Modeling and Simulation

  • Verification and Validation

  • Resource Logistics and Execution

  • Mission Operations Support

  • Model Based Systems Engineering

Basic Qualifications: 

  • For Principal Systems Engineer: Bachelor’s degree in STEM area (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) and 5 years of relevant experience; or 3 years with a Master's; 0 years with a PhD

  • Sr. Principal Systems Engineer - Bachelors of Science degree in technical field + 8 years of experience, or Masters of Science degree in technical field + 6 years of experience; or a PhD and 3+ years of experience

  • Understanding of Systems Engineering principles and practices

  • Experience in requirements management, system architecture development, and CONOPs.

  • Current or active Top Secret/SCI security clearance at time of application

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience with a space or ground system development program

  • Experience presenting to customers

  • Experience working with a cross-discipline team

  • Experience in Space Superiority mission design, satellite ground software, distributed modeling & simulation

  • Understanding of system of system architecture designs the interplay between various national security customers and products

  • Mission system requirements, verification/validation planning, mission planning/execution, mission analysis, modeling/simulation, system trade studies

  • Proficiency in any modeling and simulation tools: Cameo, STK, Matlab, AFSIM, Python

Primary Level Salary Range: $114,000.00 - $171,000.00

Secondary Level Salary Range: $142,200.00 - $213,400.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
