Northrop Grumman Defense has an opening for a Nuclear Hardness & Survivability Engineer to join its Nuclear Hardness & Survivability (NH&S) team in Roy, UT in support of the Sentinel Program. Northrop Grumman supports the Air Force’s sustainment, development, production and deployment of hardware and system modifications for Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) Ground and Airborne Launch Control Systems, Launch Facilities, and associated infrastructure.
The successful candidate will contribute to the development of the world’s most advanced weapon system in one or more of the following ways:

Defining NH&S environments
-
Radiation transport modeling and simulation
-
Radiation effects circuit analysis
-
Ground shock and thermal effects analysis
-
Effects of electromagnetic pulses on electronics
-
NHS qualification testing and analysis of semiconductors
-
NHS qualification testing and analysis of the GBSD systems, subsystems and equipment.
Basic Qualifications:
Required for both levels (T01/T02):

Must be a US Citizen with an active U.S. Government Secret Clearance, at time of application, current and within scope (
-
Must be able to be successfully screened for Enhanced Security Clearances, within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the company to meet its business needs
For T01:
-
Bachelors of Science Degree
-
Basic understanding of scripting programing languages (MATLAB, Python, or similar tool)
For a T02::
-
2 Years with Bachelors of Science; 0 Years with Masters
-
1+ year experience of electrical modeling (SPICE)
-
Basic understanding of scripting programing languages (MATLAB, Python, or similar tool)
Preferred Qualifications:
-
Have an active U.S. Government DoD Top Secret security clearance at time of application, current and within scope, with an ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) approval within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business need
-
Experience in embedded hardware and software qualification testing for circuit card assemblies and subassemblies.
-
Familiarity with MIL-STD-1766C.
-
Familiarity with MIL-STD-750, MIL-STD-883, and/or MIL-STD-461.
-
Radiation shielding design to protect against photons or neutrons and verification modeling using MCNP or GEANT4.
-
Modeling semiconductor radiation effects, including Total Ionizing Dose (TID) effects, Neutron Displacement Damage (NDD) effects, Prompt Gamma Dose Rate effects, and Single Event Effects (SEE) using PSPICE.
-
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
-
Strong ability to prioritize and manage time effectively to execute to a program schedule.

Weapon System experience (Sentinel, Minuteman III, or similar military or industry experience).
-
Master’s degree in electrical or nuclear engineering from an accredited institution.

This position’s standard work schedule is 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
