SAIC is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Systems Administrator - HCI (Hyper-Converged Infrastructure) to join our MAJESTIC Joint Program Office (JPO) Team to support the operational management, maintenance, and optimization of mission-critical IT systems in an enterprise environment. This role focuses on administration and troubleshooting of hyper-converged infrastructure (HCI) systems, particularly Nutanix, as well as Windows Server and Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) environments.

As a key member of the team, you will ensure the performance, scalability, and reliability of HCI systems while collaborating with cross-functional teams to support seamless operations. The ideal candidate has a robust understanding of virtualized environments, HCI technologies, and enterprise infrastructure.

All work for this position must be conducted on-site in Springfield, VA.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Administer, configure, and maintain Nutanix HCI infrastructure, including cluster creation, upgrades, storage, and workload optimization
  • Perform day-to-day system administration for Windows Server environments, including Active Directory (AD), group policies, and DNS
  • Provide advanced support for Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), including configuration, system tuning, troubleshooting, and patch management
  • Ensure high availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) capabilities for HCI clusters and virtualized environments
  • Perform system performance monitoring, capacity planning, and tuning for enterprise systems using tools such as SolarWinds, Splunk, Nagios, or Grafana
  • Develop, implement, and manage automated workflows for provisioning and system maintenance using scripting tools like PowerShell, Bash, or Python and platforms such as Ansible
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure proper integration between Nutanix, Windows, and RHEL environments in hybrid IT environments
  • Conduct troubleshooting and resolve complex system and network issues involving virtual machines, storage, and networking configurations within HCI platforms
  • Perform patch management for HCI, Windows, and RHEL systems to ensure security and operational readiness
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation, including standard operating procedures (SOPs), topology diagrams, and troubleshooting guides
  • Assist in evaluating, implementing, and testing emerging HCI technologies and practices to enhance the overall infrastructure
  • Support compliance with federal and industry security and operational standards, including NIST 800-53, RMF, and DoD 8510.01

Qualifications

Education: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree  

Certifications (CWF Requirements): 

  • Candidates must satisfy Cybersecurity Workforce Framework (CWF) ID 451 (System Administrator – Intermediate Level) requirements, as outlined by Navy COOL

This requirement can be met by possessing one or more of the following qualifying certifications: 

  • CompTIA Cloud+ 
  • CompTIA Security+ 
  • GIAC Global Industrial Cyber Security Professional (GICSP) 
  • GIAC Security Essentials Certification (GSEC) 
  • Systems Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP) 

OR This requirement can be met through: 

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, IT, or a related field

Experience: 

  • 6-10 years of professional experience managing and supporting enterprise-level IT environments

Technical Skills: 

  • Advanced Nutanix System Administration, including AHV cluster setup, lifecycle management, resource optimization, and troubleshooting
  • In-depth experience managing Windows Server environments, including Active Directory (AD), group policy management, and DNS configuration
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) for configuration, patching, system hardening, and troubleshooting
  • Advanced understanding of virtualization platforms, including VMware, Hyper-V, and Nutanix AHV, and the ability to manage virtual machines in multi-hypervisor environments
  • Proficiency in backup and disaster recovery processes, clustering, and high availability (HA) platforms, especially in HCI technologies
  • Strong skills in scripting and task automation using PowerShell, Bash, or Python to streamline operations and enhance system performance
  • Expertise in system monitoring and diagnostics using Splunk, Nagios, SolarWinds, and Grafana to proactively identify and address performance issues
  • Broad knowledge of networking technologies, including DHCP, VLANs, load balancers, and protocols such as TCP/IP
  • Strong familiarity with compliance and security frameworks, including RMF, NIST 800-53, and DoD cybersecurity standards

Preferred Certifications (In Addition to CWF Requirements): 

  • Nutanix Certified Professional (NCP) or other advanced Nutanix certifications
  • Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) or Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE)
  • VMware Certified Professional (VCP) or similar virtualization certifications
  • Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate
  • Familiarity with ITIL v4 frameworks

Clearance Requirement: 

  • Active TS/SCI clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI with Poly

Work Environment and Notes: 

  • On-Site Work: All work must be conducted on-site in Springfield, VA
  • Program Scope: Supports on-premises enterprise IT environments, including virtualized Windows servers, MS SQL Server databases, and networking layers
  • Subcontractor Role: Responsibilities and compensation vary based on the subcontract agreement, with a competitive salary aligned to market rates and role-specific requirements
