Amentum, a global leader in critical mission support, engineering, technology, and national security solutions, is seeking a Network / Security Engineer to support a contract based in El Paso, TX.

The Network / Security Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, securing, and maintaining enterprise network infrastructure while ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information systems. This role blends advanced networking expertise with hands-on security engineering, focusing on secure network architecture, threat prevention, monitoring, and incident response. The engineer works closely with IT, cybersecurity, and operations teams to deliver resilient, secure, and scalable network solutions.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Network Engineering

  • Design, configure, and maintain secure LAN, WAN, and wireless network architectures.
  • Implement routing, switching, and network segmentation to support performance and security requirements.
  • Support network expansions, technology refreshes, and infrastructure modernization initiatives.
  • Troubleshoot complex network issues across multi-site environments.

Security Engineering

  • Design and implement network security controls including firewalls, IDS/IPS, VPNs, and network access control.
  • Configure and maintain secure remote access and site-to-site connectivity.
  • Monitor network traffic and security events to identify threats, vulnerabilities, and anomalies.
  • Support containment, remediation, and recovery activities for security incidents.

Monitoring & Operations

  • Implement and maintain network and security monitoring tools.
  • Perform log analysis and traffic inspection to detect and investigate suspicious activity.
  • Support vulnerability identification and remediation related to network infrastructure.

Architecture & Risk Reduction

  • Apply secure-by-design principles to network architecture and system integrations.
  • Support risk assessments related to network and perimeter security.
  • Recommend improvements to strengthen network resilience and reduce attack surfaces.

Documentation & Collaboration

  • Maintain accurate network diagrams, configurations, and security documentation.
  • Develop and update standard operating procedures and technical guidelines.
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity analysts, system administrators, and application teams.
  • Support audits, inspections, and compliance activities as required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Three (3) to seven (7) years of of experience in network engineering, security engineering, or a combined role.
  • Strong hands-on experience with:
  • Routing and switching technologies
  • Firewalls, VPNs, and network security appliances
  • TCP/IP, OSI model, and network troubleshooting
  • Experience securing enterprise or multi-site networks.
  • Ability to analyze complex network and security issues and implement effective solutions.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization. Note: US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization at this work location.

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or in a similar discipline preferred; two (2) years of experience in related field may be substituted for each year of the four (4) years of college.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with enterprise firewall platforms and intrusion detection/prevention systems.
  • Familiarity with security monitoring and log analysis tools.
  • Experience supporting high-availability or mission-critical environments.
  • Industry certifications such as:
  • CCNA / CCNP
  • Security+ CISSP (or Associate)
  • Vendor-specific network or security certifications

  • Work may include data centers, network closets, and secure facilities.
  • Strict adherence to organizational security and operational policies is required.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
