Northrop Grumman Space Systems—Missile Defense Integration offers a great opportunity for a Principal Engineer Network – X-Lab Network Engineer (26-246) to join our team of talented and diverse professionals. This role, based at Schriever Space Force Base in Colorado Springs, CO, is vital in supporting the U.S. President, the Secretary of Defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels. 

 

This position does not offer relocation help and requires on-site work with no remote options. 

 

Position Overview: 

 

The Command, Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program is a vital part of the Missile Defense System. It acts as an essential operational tool that allows the U.S. president, the secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at the strategic, regional, and operational levels to plan ballistic missile defenses systematically, monitor the battle collectively, and dynamically control networked sensors and weapons systems to meet global and regional mission goals. C2BMC supports layered missile defense systems that deliver an optimized response to threats across all ranges and flight phases. It functions as a force multiplier by connecting, integrating, and synchronizing autonomous sensors, weapon systems, and operations at both global and regional levels to improve performance. C2BMC is crucial for all grounds and flight tests that verify and demonstrate the current and future capabilities of missile defense systems. 

 

We are looking for a skilled and highly motivated Principal Network Engineer to join our team supporting the C2BMC X-Lab Test Program. The ideal candidate will apply their expertise in network design, development, and testing to a dynamic environment, offering innovative solutions to complex technical challenges. This role requires a hands-on network engineer with a strong background in Defense Department (DoD) network requirements, including technical compliance with the Risk Management Framework (RMF). 

 

Essential Functions: 

 

  • Serve as a primary Network Engineer and Developer to support network build-outs and operational environment deployments 

  • Collaborate with the X-Lab Events Team to manage and support scheduled test events within deadlines 

  • Support, analyze, and integrate complex designs related to network equipment, troubleshooting, and long-term solutions 

  • Maintain detailed documentation using industry-standard tools such as Microsoft PowerPoint and Visio 

  • Represent the organization in resolving technical issues in customer-facing settings, ensuring excellence and responsiveness 

  • Ensure compliance with DoD security practices, including STIG (Security Technical Implementation Guide) compliance and system accreditation implementation 

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for documentation, presentations, and stakeholder engagements 

  • Proficient in applying wide-ranging principles, theories, and concepts to develop imaginative and thorough technical solutions to complex problems 

  • Familiarity with DoD-specific standards, including: 

  • RMF (Risk Management Framework) practices, audits, and compliance 

  • Assisting with the creation, review, and validation of DoD IA RMF documentation 

 

Basic Qualifications: 

 

Please list your current security clearance and IAT or relevant certifications on your resume, if applicable. 

 

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Network Engineering, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field from an accredited university is preferred, along with 5 years of experience; or a Master’s degree in a related field with 3 years of relevant work experience; or 9 years of relevant work experience may be considered as an alternative to a degree 

  • Applicants must have a current, active in-scope DoD-issued Secret security clearance at the time of application, which is required to start 

  • Applicants must have a current active DoD 8140 certification at IAT Level II or higher (such as Security+, GSEC, SCNP, SSCP, CISSP, CISA, GSE, SCNA, etc.), which is required to start 

  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 10% to support business needs 

  • Solid understanding of networking protocols and the OSI Model 

  • Expertise in TCP/IP, BGP, and OSPF, and advanced troubleshooting of network traffic 

  • Hands-on experience with: 

  • Juniper firewalls (must-have) 

  • UDP multicast, SONET, MSPP, VLANs, GRE Tunnels, and TCP/IP network designs 

  • Multi-vendor network equipment, optical transport equipment, TACLANEs, and WAN optimizers 

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

 

  • Prior experience working with C2BMC network infrastructure 

  • Familiarity with Schriever Space Force Base operations and protocols

Primary Level Salary Range: $94,200.00 - $141,200.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
