Northrop Grumman's Defense Systems (NGDS) sector is looking for a Manager Software Engineering 1 to lead a team of talented software engineers and ensure quality engineering support to programs, IRADs and new business pursuits. The location of this position is Rome, NY. The Software Engineering Manager will be working at AFRL alongside fellow software engineering professionals as we continue to develop and improve the software products for our customers. The position supports the engineering organization goals for providing people, processes, and tools to meet the current and future needs of the programs and technologies within the sector portfolio. This role will help foster the establishment and maintenance of a world class Software and Digital Technologies organization.

The selected candidate will also actively participate in engineering activities related to our Intelligence, Systems, Infrastructure, Tools & Enhancements (InSITE) Program as well as other relevant Northrop Grumman Defense Systems programs. The candidate will have a track record as an effective team member with excellent engineering skills.  The successful candidate will be authorized for ~15% indirect charging to perform duties associated with this position. 

The selected candidate will:

  • Be available to be on-site at AFRL full-time
  • Be available to participate in 24X7 on-call operations as requested by the government
  • Providing functional leadership to the team in a strong engineering organization, collaborating with peers across multiple organizations.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree with 5+ years of relevant experience in engineering development projects or Master's degree with 3+ years of relevant experience in engineering development projects
  • Active secret clearance with the ability to obtain a TS/SCI clearance
  • Experience in managing or coordinating the implementation and delivery of sophisticated software systems in support of Government customers
  • Previous experience in people and / or technical leadership roles
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies
  • CompTIA Security+ certification or IAT Level II equivalent per DoD 8570.01 within 60 days of start date
  • Experience with Cloud-Based Technologies
  • Ability to hold a technical role on the DAF CLOUDworks program at AFRL/RI
  • Available to participate in 24X7 on-call operations
  • Must have 85% coverage on an existing direct program OR qualify for an open Northrop Grumman requisition at Rome, NY for a technical engineering role.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active TS/SCI clearance
  • Experience working with multiple subcontractors concurrently
  • Program Management experience working with National Air Space Intelligence Center (NASIC), National Space Intelligence Center (NSIC), Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), Air Combat Command (ACC) or Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA).
  • Business development and/or proposal experience
  • Experience leading a team in the Engineering department of a matrix-like organization
  • Experience leading engineering teams using Agile processes and continuous integration / continuous deployment processes and tools
  • Knowledge of AFRL/RI contracting process and procedures

Primary Level Salary Range: $121,000.00 - $181,400.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
