Job Description

We are looking for a Field Applications Engineer with a strong embedded systems background who can operate comfortably across customer-facing technical sales, technical communications, and hands-on engineering support. This role is ideal for someone who can bridge engineering depth with clear customer communication and help articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

What you’ll do:

  • Support pre-sales technical engagements with customers and partners
  • Answer technical customer questions during evaluations, procurement, and integration discussions
  • Translate customer requirements into clear technical recommendations and solutions
  • Develop technical materials and written responses for proposals, grant applications, customer documentation, and partner communications
  • Work closely with engineering and product teams to accurately communicate product capabilities and limitations
  • Assist with hardware setup, integration, and field support when needed
  • Represent the company in customer meetings, industry events, and technical discussions

What we need:

  • BS/MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
  • 3+ years of experience in a technical pre-sales, solutions engineering, or FAE role
  • Strong embedded systems background, including firmware/hardware integration
  • Comfortable working with PCB hardware, embedded devices, and drone systems
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to explain complex technical topics clearly and concisely
  • Confident, extroverted, and comfortable interacting directly with customers and partners
  • Strong technical writing skills, including the ability to contribute to proposals, grant applications, and customer-facing technical documentation
  • Practical, hands-on mindset; effective in both lab and field environments

Would be an advantage:

  • Experience with drones, robotics, RF systems, or edge AI platforms
  • Familiarity with Linux-based embedded systems
  • Experience supporting enterprise, defense, or government customers
  • Exposure to wireless communications, telemetry, or autonomous systems
  • Experience contributing to technical proposals, SBIRs, grants, or RFP responses

What you’ll get:

  • Your work ships fast and gets used. Direct operational feedback from frontline users in weeks, not years
  • A fast-paced environment with minimal bureaucracy and no “process for the sake of process”
  • Competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package (insurance, paid sick leave, 20 paid days off per year)
  • Flexible remote work options where possible

About Swarmer

Swarmer

Swarmer is a defense technology company focused on developing AI-powered autonomy software that enables drones and unmanned systems to operate collaboratively in complex mission environments. Rather than building the hardware itself, Swarmer creates the software infrastructure that allows autonomous systems to communicate, coordinate, and execute missions as intelligent teams. Its technology is designed to help military operators deploy autonomous capabilities more effectively across air, land, and maritime domains.

For job seekers, Swarmer offers the opportunity to work at the cutting edge of artificial intelligence, autonomy, robotics, and defense technology. The company hires across software engineering, AI and machine learning, autonomy development, systems engineering, product development, and mission-focused technical roles. It is especially appealing to engineers, technologists, veterans, and defense professionals who want to help build the next generation of military capabilities.

Unlike traditional defense contractors, Swarmer operates with a startup-driven culture focused on rapid innovation, agile development, and close collaboration between engineers and end users. Employees work on challenging technical problems involving autonomous decision-making, multi-agent systems, real-time communications, and scalable software platforms that can support a growing ecosystem of unmanned technologies.

As defense organizations increasingly invest in autonomous systems, drone operations, and AI-enabled mission capabilities, demand for advanced autonomy software continues to accelerate. For professionals seeking a high-growth company where they can directly influence the future of defense technology, Swarmer offers the opportunity to work on some of the most important challenges shaping modern warfare and national security.
