Job Description We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Software Product Engineering Manager to lead the Digital Architecture Team (DAT) in delivering cutting-edge software solutions that modernize BAE Systems' digital infrastructure. This role is pivotal to driving our adoption of Lean and Agile principles and practices, including those found in the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe). The successful candidate will be a seasoned leader responsible for guiding a team of technical managers and engineers through all phases of agile delivery, overseeing the development of cost-effective, scalable solutions utilizing modular software architecture, and ensuring close alignment with BAE Systems' strategic objectives within the constraints of government and contract requirements. This role requires a strong understanding of the defense industrial base and the associated regulatory landscape.

Responsibilities
  • Champion lean and agile principles that guide the team in maximizing value delivery.
  • Serve as a key contributor to the definition and refinement of the team’s vision and roadmap.
  • Provide technical vision and direction to the Digital Architecture Team, ensuring alignment with BAE Systems’ digital transformation strategy.
  • Facilitate iterative planning and execution, ensuring alignment across teams.
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement within the team.
  • Manage engineering programs and products within Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe), prioritizing epics/features.
  • Develop and maintain product roadmaps and release plans.
  • Track and report on key program metrics, including velocity and burndown.
  • Coach and mentor a high-performing team of technical engineers.
  • Build strong stakeholder relationships, ensuring their needs are understood.
  • Drive innovation by identifying opportunities to leverage emerging technologies.
  • Ensure adherence to security standards and compliance requirements.
  • Communicate program status and risks to senior leadership.
  • Promote a culture of self-organization and accountability.
  • Facilitate audits and ensure timely documentation completion.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
  • 4+ years experience in software engineering, program / product management, or a related discipline.
  • Proven team leadership in high‑performing, cross‑functional groups.
  • Strong software‑architecture knowledge and solid engineering fundamentals.
  • Modular architecture & digital‑transformation experience including innovative engineering practices.
  • Jira proficiency for project / product management, backlog creation, and writing clear epics/features.
  • SAFe POPM or equivalent Agile certification (e.g., Certified Agile Scaling Practitioner, CASP; PMI‑ACP)
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
  • Defense, aerospace, or manufacturing experience – proven work in any of these sectors.
  • Government‑defense background with familiarity of NIST, DFARS, or similar regulations.
  • Hands‑on DevSecOps experience – tools, pipelines, and security‑as‑code practices.
  • Model‑Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) experience – tooling (Cameo, MagicDraw, etc.) and methodology.
  • Cross‑functional leadership ability to motivate and align diverse teams.
  • Excellent communication skills and stakeholder‑management expertise.
  • Conflict‑resolution capability and facilitation of productive discussions.
  • Technical‑presentation skill to convey complex ideas to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Active security clearance – Secret or higher.


Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $118095 - $200762

Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
