THAAD Program Quality Engineer

BAE Systems Precision Strike (PS) business area is seeking a Production Quality Engineer to support the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) program. This role will be the Quality point of contact for the factory supporting engineering facing activities including but not limited to data analysis (Cost of Poor Quality Metrics), First Article Inspection, tooling/fixturing supports, supplier segmentation efforts, material clausing on THAAD Production Programs. In this role, you will work closely with Production Quality Lead, Operations Team and the Program Management Office in support of all Production Program activities from the Quality perspective. Production activities include, but are not limited to, factory support for any Production builds, First Article Inspection, customer requirements management including translation to execution, non-conformance tracking and management and data trending, supply chain support, and many others. A heavy focus will be on continuous improvement and efficiencies to support an aggressive production ramp timeline. This Production Quality Engineer will work collaboratively with the Development Program on Diminishing Manufacturing Sources (DMS)/Obsolescence (OBS) management, as well as Transition to Production and cut-in changes into the active Production Program without disruption. This person will work directly with the Program Quality Manager III on Leadership of THAAD Production Quality Team.
The successful candidate:
- Possess strong communication and presentation skills to facilitate effective communication with peers and functions on the program
- Is an experienced Quality Engineer who takes a collaborative approach with partnering and comes across as approachable
- Experience with requirements management and flow down. Familiarity with Quality facing Program plans such as Program Quality Plan, First Article Inspection, Quality Assurance Visual Mechanical Inspection (QAVMI) and Sell off Guidelines, Material Clausing Plans
- Takes responsibility for resolving technical challenges and ensuring successful tactical execution across the team in a quick and efficient manner
- Relates well with individuals at all levels of the organization, builds effective relationships within BAE Systems and across customer base
Key Responsibilities:
- Work with the Quality lead and factory to ensure alignment on organization goals that drive to Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ) reduction and Continuous Improvement
- Collaborate as a member of the THAAD Quality Team for planning, and execution of critical Production Activities
- Provide innovative ideas for Production Programs
- Ensure products conform to established company and regulatory performance and quality standards
- Requirements Management including creation of non-conformances against requirements and working to resolution and closure
- Review, analyze and report on quality discrepancies and data within the program
- Investigate problems, learn to facilitate root cause investigations and develop disposition and corrective actions for discrepancies – using proven root cause/corrective action (RCCA) techniques and driving sustainable preventive improvements as quickly and efficiently as possible
- Material Alert supports including quick and efficient issue identification, containment, and resolution
- Material Clausing and translation of customer and drawing requirements in support of procurement activities
- A technical Bachelor's Degree and 4+ years of work experience in relevant field or 8+ years of experience, in a relative field, in lieu of degree
- Experienced Program Quality Engineer on Production facing programs
- Self-starting problem solver; able to make effective decisions with minimal information
- Demonstrated Communication Skills (written, verbal, visual) and interpersonal skills (listening and communicating within a group/team).
- Exhibits a good understanding of program quality and communicates technical information in a simplistic and easily understandable way to program management
- Organizational skills – able to prioritize and understand what needs to be done quickly as an individual contributor
- Material Clausing and Procurement experience as well as experience supporting a dynamic supply chain
- Relevant industry standards (AS9100, AS9102 and AS9145)
- Technical Bachelor's degree
- Good understanding of Quality Science tools (APQP/PPAP, 8D RCCA, Statistical Process Controls, Lean Six Sigma, Auditing)
- Experience in Root Cause Corrective Action facilitation and Continuous Improvement activities
- Material Review Board (MRB) supports and communication of difficult technical issues to the customer with guidance from leadership
- Experience in aerospace and defense
- Active Secret clearance
Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $97008 - $164914
Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
