Overview
The Shipyard Test Organization is the premier trade made up of a team of world class testers who have the knowledge and skill to be the last in line delivering the most capable warships to the U.S. Navy. In STO, we are a learning organization that operates daily on our foundational pillars of proper planning, integrity, and ownership to complete operational testing with the highest level of formality.
Specific responsibilitiesinclude but are not limited to:
- Perform electrical testing of all Shipboard, Steam and Electric Plant, Auxiliary and Weapons systems.
- Complete and maintain the required training to perform electrical operational testing of all Steam and Electric Plant systems; Hull Mechanical and Auxiliary systems; and Weapons systems which may include going on sea trials.
- Complete and maintain the required training to perform watch standing duties to include: operate ships electrical systems; roving watches required for ship safety, safety dispatch or to monitor electrical systems required as part of the construction which may include weekend work.
- Complete and maintain the required training to perform the duties of a safety technician which requires making systems safe for trade work utilizing Electric Boats Lock out/Tag out procedures.
- Ability to follow written procedures and comply with requirements.
- Exhibit high moral character and integrity required to certify NAVSEA test requirements.
- Exhibit the ability to read and understand various system and test diagrams/drawings required for all electrical system testing.
- Work onboard submarines under construction during all phases of construction in all types of weather.
- Work requires heavy lifting, pulling and climbing (ladders) and enter in tight/confined spaces for extended periods of time.
- Be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance.
- Perform various electrical testing tasks using various meters to perform continuity checks of installed cables and equipment. Perform alignments of ship systems electronic systems. Assist in trouble shooting when required.
- Perform other duties assigned by their supervisor.
- Complete and maintain the required training to use radiological dosimetry to work within radiological controlled areas when required.
- Complete and maintain the required training to work on energized equipment. Individual must understand and comply with Division Safety Manual and technical manual operating instructions.
Pay is: $28.70 - $41.14/hr

Qualifications
Qualifications Required:
- High School diploma or GED or 2+ years technical experience
- Must be available for any shift
- Prior formal training or job experience in electrical trades and/or testing
Preferred:
- Prior US Naval submarine system experience or prior testing experience with shipboard systems
- Experience in one or more of the following: Related military training, electrical training from Vocational, Technical or Community College
- Experience with and knowledge of Lock out/Tag out procedures
