The Test Operations Department at Northrop Grumman Oceanic Systems is seeking a dependable Electronics Test Engineer to support our growing portfolio of undersea systems and sensor development programs in Annapolis, MD.
On a day-to-day basis, the Electronics Test Engineer:
Performs acoustical and electrical testing in support of the development and production of various military-grade SONAR systems using unique proprietary test equipment and standard test equipment.
Provides imaginative, thorough, practicable contributions to the research, design and development of SONAR systems equipment and systems, including circuitry components, analog and digital computers, and control and test equipment.
Proposes, designs, develops and implements improvements to equipment and processes.
Ensures safety of personnel and process, as well as consistent compliance with test specifications and manufacturing procedures.
Ensures routine/periodic maintenance of the lab equipment and facilities.
Compiles test data, and defines changes required in testing equipment, testing procedures, manufacturing processes, or new testing requirements.
Supports test technicians with training, mentorship, test readiness preparation, and in-process troubleshooting.
Works with a high degree of discretion and latitude, and independently determining and developing approaches to solutions.
Represents the Test Department with frequent inter-organizational and outside customer contacts, in providing solutions to difficult technical issues associated with specific projects.
Provides similar support to test efforts in multiple disciplines (e.g., acoustical, electro-mechanical, hydrostatic, environmental, hydraulic/pneumatic, software) as directed.
The ideal candidate will have experience with common industry-standard practices, such as FOD (Foreign Object Debris), ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) , Electrical Safety, and basic solder. He/she will have strong communication and collaboration skills; will be self-directed, organized and have a team-oriented work style.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s in Science degree with a minimum 8 years of Electronics Engineering or Test Engineering experience; OR a Master’s in Science degree with a minimum 6 years of Electronics Engineering or Test Engineering experience or a PhD in Bachelor’s in Science.
Experience in the field of underwater acoustics, including design, test, operation, maintenance, troubleshooting and/or repair of military-grade SONAR systems.
Experience operating standard test equipment such as oscilloscopes, signal generators, gain/phase analyzers, etc.
Ability to work extended and alternate shifts as required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Hands-on experience with the testing and integration of µSAS™ sensors and systems.
Experience conducting testing while at-sea to support customer objectives.
