Job Description

As the Senior Manager of the Structures and Composites group, the candidate will be responsible for providing supervisory/management responsibilities for a group of managers and engineers working on production, processing, and development of composites structures, metal materials, ammunition, and thermal/structural analysis.  While the position is primarily managerial, the candidate will also need to provide technical leadership and guidance. This manager will also work on proposal requests, staffing, finance management and provide input on product/program growth and expansion.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Lead a team that develops and sustains manufacturing processes for defense-related products
  • Ensure the right people, processes, and tools are in place to meet the business needs
  • Oversee the supervision of activity and work products, expense management, workload management and performance management process
  • Identify, manage and grow the critical skills for their team
  • Identify and/or lead continuous improvement activities within the department/plant
  • Function as a contributor on development programs, guiding manufacturing trajectory
  • Prepare, review, and approve cost estimates and written technical proposals

Basic Qualifications

  • BS degree in Engineering is required, preferably Mechanical or Aerospace and a minimum of 8 years of directly related engineering management experience. Or Masters degree with 6 years of experience.
  • Prior project, program, or people leadership experience
  • Mechanical skills and prior experience working in a manufacturing environment
  • Ability and experience with interpreting drawing/specification requirements
  • Familiarity with Root Cause Analysis, Fault Trees and Design of Experiments
  • Strong leadership, influence, and project management skills
  • Ability to network and negotiate at all levels within an organization to accomplish objectives
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written
  • Ability to travel occasionally (<10%) to meet with various customers, in both government and industry, and to interface with vendors
  • Ability to obtain a DoD Secret Clearance which requires US Citizenship as a prerequisite

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong mechanical skills and exposure to Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Knowledge of composite structures and metal processing
  • Minimum of 10 years of directly related engineering management experience
  • Technical writing capability
  • Prior experience working with DoD and/or DoE customers

Primary Level Salary Range: $151,500.00 - $227,300.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
