Northrop Grumman’s Defense Systems sector is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Manager 2. This position is in our Strategic Deterrent Systems Division to execute the Engineering and Manufacturing Development phase of the Sentinel Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD) program in support of the United States Air Force. This position will be located on campus in Manhattan Beach, CA.

What You’ll Get To Do:

  • Provide career mentorship and operational support to a function homeroom team of between 8 and 12 individual contributors. Key responsibilities will be performance management, process familiarization, staffing support and trainings for individual contributors.

  • The qualified candidate will report to the Team Lead in C&L Infrastructure.

  • Design, document, and test cables and or breakout boxes.

  • Conduct LRU interface research, process documents and collaborates with other engineers to determine best design for each set of cables.

  • Integrate delivered LRUs under direction of the technical lead.

  • Create interface control models by working with systems engineering to ensure all requirements are captured in 3D space.

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

You’ll Bring These Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in STEM field plus 8 years of experience, or Master's Degree in STEM field plus 6 years of experience

  • Must have an active U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance at time of application, current and within scope, with an ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) approval within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business need

  • 1+ years of experience with design and development of large mechanical systems

  • 3+ years of experience with CAD modeling

  • TeamCenter CPLM experience or similar

  • Ability to understand and interpret requirements

  • Ability to read and understand wiring and interconnect diagrams

These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:

  • ICBM Experience

  • 1+ years of formal experience leading a project and/or driving performance against cost and schedule in the Aerospace and Defense industry

  • Experience in creating a Product Definition Package (PDP) or PDP like products

  • Experience with the ASME Y14.X suite of engineering drawing standards

  • Ability to work closely with multiple functional organizations (Engineering, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Field Operations, etc.)

  • Experience with Siemens NX and CPLM

  • Cost Account Manager training and/or experience managing programs or subcontracts in an Earned Value framework

  • Strong understanding and broad application of engineering systems (engineering standards, configuration management, material review board, process control, tooling, facilities, software, etc.)

  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including demonstrated experience with high value customer presentations, with ability to focus on multiple projects with competing priorities

  • Demonstrated experience in making sound decisions in uncertain and difficult situations

  • Experience performing CAD modeling with design tools such as Siemens NX or similar

  • Experience using the electrical workbench within NX or similar CAD software for cable routing purposes.

Primary Level Salary Range: $146,600.00 - $219,800.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
