About the position: This position is Non-appropriated Fund (NAF) and will be assigned to the Outdoor Recreation Auto Hobby Facility. This announcement is in conjunction with the Patrick SFB Non-Appropriated Fund Job Fair to be held on Thursday, 5 February 2026 from 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM at the Tides Club. Major duties
Assigns stalls to customers; with the mechanic, assists in tracing and identifying problems in areas such as minor and major overhauls, carburetor rebuilding, electrical circuitry, and timing, etc. Provides instruction to patrons, as requested or as deemed appropriate. Instructs patrons on the proper and safe use of pneumatic and hand tools. Working with higher graded mechanic, performs such duties as troubleshooting, rebuilding and repairing automotive engines, major assemblies, and components. As instructed, utilizes test equipment such as oscilloscopes, compression gauges, exhaust electrical test stands, electrical testers, special feeder and dial gauges, exhaust and analyzers, engine and classic dynamic meters. Assists with tear down, rebuild, or replacement of complex components, such as engines, transmissions, electrical systems. With the mechanic, aligns, meshes and connects repaired units to related mechanisms and effects adjustments according to manufacturer's specifications, hooks up fuel, oil, hydraulic, and electrical systems to repaired units and makes adjustments to assure proper operation of units. Assists with turning rotors, alignments, brake repairs, wheel balancing, tire changes and other repairs. Assists with repairs to NAF vehicles. Enters fees, charges, and sales into point of sales computer system. Completes proper opening and closing procedures. Answers telephone and customer questions in a courteous manner. Takes appointments for alignments, air conditioning, and paint booth. Checks and assists with instructing customers on proper use and safety precautions on all tools and machinery before permitting their use. Maintains order in the facility, enforces applicable, fire, safety, and good housekeeping rules and regulations. Performs cleanup duties as required. Keeps tools and equipment in good condition be periodic and preventive maintenance. Recommends replacement/repair and/or acquisition of tools and equipment. Assist s with assigning space in the "For Sale Lot" and ensures that procedures are followed. Frequently checks the lost for unauthorized vehicles and expired spaces and contacts owner as necessary for compliance. Performs other duties as assigned. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Qualifying Experience: Must have experience in the maintenance and repair of automotive engines and equipment which demonstrates the ability to satisfactorily perform the duties of this position. Must have knowledge of and experience with a variety of hand and power tools commonly used in the automotive industry and be able to select proper tools for tasks performed. Knowledge of manufacturer's repair manual's desirable. Must be able to frequently lift and carry objects weighing up to 7S pounds. Frequently stands, bens, stoops, crawls and works in tight spaces. Satisfactory completion of preemployment physical examination is required. Must be able to operate a personal computer and point of sales system. Must be able to accurately complete transactions, accept payment and make change. Must successfully complete a National Agency Check with Inquires and any other required background or security investigations. Must have a valid driver's license and be able to obtain a government license. This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing or drug use.
Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution. FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
