Job summary

You will serve as a WELDER in the Machine Shop Branch (Code 1440.2) Production Division (Code 1440) in the Naval Foundry and Propeller Center (NFPC) (Code 1400) in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania a detachment of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Major duties

You will utilize gauges tools and equipment used in the welder trade, such as regulators, flowmeters, rectifiers, pneumatic grinders, hand tools, etc You will demonstrate the ability to burn utilizing fuel gas and air arc techniques and operate automated burning machinery.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION Ability to weld using SMAW, GMAW, and GTAW; Ability to adhere to strict welding workmanship acceptance criteria on finished machined components and assemblies; Ability to operate arc welding equipment, oxyfuel cutting torches, oxylance and plasma cutting systems used in the manufacturing process; Ability to perform GMAW welding of special alloys; Ability to prepare component or area for welding. includes cleaning, layout, and setup; Ability to read and interpret welding symbols from blueprints, specifications, and sketches; Ability to obtain RT certification in both processes. Ability to understand safety precautions associated with welding; Ability to Set up and maintain machines and equipment.
