About the Position: This position is with the 100th Missile Defense Brigade, in Fort Drum, NY, performing armed access control duties at the In-flight Interceptor Communications System Data Terminal Complex. NOTE: Competition for Security Guard positions is restricted to law to persons entitled to Veteran's Preference as long as such applicants are available for appointment.

Major duties

Conducts armed foot patrol of the interior and exterior of restricted areas to inspect for security violations. Provides access control of vehicles and pedestrians to the IDT Complex, based on an approved limited access roster and/or appropriate restricted area access badge. Verifies identification through use of identification cards, badges, biometrics, automated records, vehicle decals, verbal questioning, and other means. Warns violators of laws, regulations, policies, and rules or posted warnings.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes working with a Federal, State, municipal, local, or private protective organization that involved the protection of property against such hazards as fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (NK-01/GS-04). You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-04/NK-01).

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
