The COMET contract provides overall management and implementation of NASA's ground systems capabilities, flight hardware processing and launch operations at the Kennedy Space Center (KSC) in Florida. These tasks will support the International Space Station, Exploration Ground Systems, Space Launch System, Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle, and Launch Services Programs. Engineering discipline shall be mechanical related and primarily pertains to operating and maintaining systems, and developing system subject matter expert knowledge and experience. Responsibilities include system analysis; developing plans, processes, and procedures; documentation preparation for payload and spacecraft processing; troubleshooting and resolution of mechanical system mechanisms, structures; and mechanical lifting and handling.

Responsibilities:

• Perform mechanical engineering in support of spacecraft and payload processing for the NASA Exploration Ground Systems (EGS) Orion MultiPurpose Crew Vehicle (MPCV), the NASA Launch Services Program (LSP), and the NASA International Space Station (ISS) Payloads and Orbital Replacement Units (ORU).

• Candidate will support the Amentum Consolidated Operations, Management, Engineering, and Test (COMET) contract Spaceflight Processing Directorate as a mechanical engineer in the Payload and Spacecraft Mechanical Engineering department that is responsible for assembling, testing, processing, and supporting launch of NASA's ISS flight hardware, LSP spacecraft, and Orion MPCV.

• Initial assignments will focus on developing an understanding of the mechanical mechanisms and structures assigned to the group and a concept of system operations. Additional responsibilities include troubleshooting non-conformances and problem resolution.

• Assignments will include preparing ground support equipment (GSE) with technicians for mechanical assembly and hardware lifting and handling in compliance with approved drawings, specifications, and applicable pressure vessel safety standards. Thorough knowledge of flight hardware servicing and mechanical integration will be obtained.

• Candidates will be required to develop and apply knowledge of technical principles for ISS and Orion MPCV processing operations concepts, ground to vehicle interfaces, vehicle/ground system design and operation, and launch configuration and closeouts.

• Additional responsibilities in spacecraft processing, procedural development, test requirements, system training and task leader certification will follow.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering degree or related engineering/technical discipline from an accredited engineering school.

• Excellent communication, presentation and customer interface skills required.

• Analytical and problem solving skills.

• Capable of reading/understanding technical manuals, drawings and schematics.

• Ability to plan, manage and prioritize multiple projects.

• Computer experience with Microsoft Office products, Internet browsers, and outlook

• Experience with Microsoft Office or comparable application, publication and graphics applications is desired.

• Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, if necessary. Physical Requirements:

• Will be required to climb stairs in order to access equipment for trouble shooting. • Will be required to wear hearing protection, eye protection and other associated specialized personal protective equipment.

• Position may involve extended periods of sitting or standing.

• Physical requirements are: sitting, walking, standing, extensive use of stairs, and access to remote structures.

• Position is located on a hazardous testing facility; must be able to quickly evacuate buildings in the event of an emergency. Work Environment:

• Will be required to work inside and outside throughout the test complex.

• Position may require daily individual to travel to different areas on site.

• Walking on uneven terrain including paved areas, gravel/rocks, and dirt/sand is required to access various locations on the facility.

• Climbing ladders and platforms may be necessary. • All work must be completed in a safe manner in accordance with NASA and Company safety standards. Equipment and Machines: • Computers and printers used for producing reports and schedules. • Variety of equipment used in testing. Attendance:

• Full-time regular work hours between Monday-Friday.

• Position shall require working overtime including weekend work depending on a variety of tasks and operations.

• Must be dependable and punctual.

• Shift work may be required. Other Essential Functions:

• Must be able to accurately communicate ideas in writing and verbal communication.

• Must be able to travel to support position requirements. This may include travel to and from customer location, which may involve airline travel. In some cases, accommodations can be made for privately owned vehicle (POV), if necessary.

• Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.

• Must comply with all “drug free workplace” requirements as mandated by directives issued by the appropriate federal contracting officer and the company, which requires drug testing for use of illegal drugs by employees in sensitive positions.

• Government security clearance may be required in the future.

• Must maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters good relations with customers, clients, co-workers and management.
