The Purchasing Manager LMR will be responsible for managing the procurement process for the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) Full Line Food Service Distribution for Southwest Asian and Eastern Africa (SWAEA) program. This role involves sourcing food service products, negotiating contracts with suppliers, and ensuring that purchasing practices align with program goals and compliance standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement procurement strategies that optimize cost, quality, and delivery timelines for food service products.
  • Collaborate with senior management to align purchasing strategies with organizational objectives and customer requirements.
  • Identify, evaluate, and establish relationships with suppliers and vendors to ensure a reliable and quality supply of products.
  • Work in tandem with catalogue, customer service and demand planning staff to develop alternate solutions for LMR items.
  • Negotiate contracts, pricing, and terms to secure favorable agreements and maintain strong supplier relationships.
  • Work closely with the demand planning and inventory management teams to ensure alignment between purchasing activities and inventory levels.
  • Monitor product availability and lead times to make timely purchasing decisions.
  • Ensure all purchasing activities comply with DLA regulations, federal procurement standards, and quality assurance protocols.
  • Conduct regular audits of supplier performance and compliance with contractual obligations.
  • Analyze purchasing data and market trends to identify cost-saving opportunities and optimize purchasing decisions.
  • Prepare and present reports on purchasing activities, supplier performance, and cost analysis to senior management.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline procurement processes and implement best practices to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Lead initiatives for automation and technology adoption in the purchasing function.
  • Provide training and support to staff on procurement best practices, tools, and compliance requirements.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement within the purchasing team.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Procurement, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in purchasing or procurement management, preferably in the food service or logistics industry.
  • Experience in government contracting and familiarity with DLA policies and procedures
  • Strong knowledge of procurement principles, supplier negotiation, and contract management.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in procurement software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Certification in purchasing or supply chain management (e.g., CPSM, CPIM) is a plus.
  • Knowledge of food service industry standards and supplier management best practices.
