About the Position: The mission of the CCAD is to overhaul, repair, modify, retrofit, test and modernize helicopters, engines and components for all services and foreign military customers. CCAD is the Army's Center of Industrial and Technical Excellence for Rotary Wing Aviation Maintenance.

Major duties

Performs in-process and final acceptance inspections on welding and metallizing operations of aircraft, and aircraft engines, components and fabricated parts. Monitors the processes and procedures utilized during welding and metal spray tasks. Assures the current certification of welding personnel. Initiates reports on discrepancies and/or excessive processing to shop supervisor and other personnel, making available own expertise in effecting corrective actions. Prepares and maintains a variety of statistical records, charts and reports to provide quality feedback data.

Qualification

Position may be filled as a time-limited promotion, reassignment or change to lower grade not to exceed (NTE) 1 year by a current permanent Army employee. Time-limited promotions may be extended up to a maximum of five years. Time-limited reassignments and changes to lower grade may exceed five years, however return rights may be impacted. Position may be made permanent without further competition. Current Department of Army Civilian Employees Applying on Time-Limited Assignments Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Welding Inspector without more than normal supervision. Ability to perform common welding inspections. Performed common welds in fabrication and repair at the journeyman level. Provided technical direction and assistance to others in performing those tasks - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Inspect Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Dexterity and Safety Knowledge of Metals Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Use of Measuring Instruments Physical Efforts: Work involves standing, walking, stooping, bending, kneeling, and climbing. May be required to lift items weighing up to 35 pounds without assistance, and over 35 pounds with assistance from another worker or weight handling equipment; lifting of heavier items may require assistance from other workers or lifting devices. Working Conditions: Work is done in shop area. Employee is subject to injury from handling items/components during inspections. Is constantly exposed to dirt, grease, noise, dust and fumes from welding and metal spray operations. Possible exposure to radioactive fumes during welding of magnesium thorium metals. Work is performed on concrete floors and in eye-hazardous area which requires wearing of safety glasses and other safety equipment as required.
