About U.S. Army Sustainment Command

The 401st Army Field Support’s mission is to leverage the power of the Army Materiel Command (AMC) and the entire Materiel Enterprise to support the readiness of U.S. Army Central Command (ARCENT). As part of the ARCENT team, the 401st provides logistics support to military and government agencies working to build readiness and security capacity in the region. We accomplish this mission by integrating and synchronizing the reach back capability of the AMC Life Cycle Management Commands (LCMCs) and Program managers under the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Acquisition, Logistics, and Technology (ASA-ALT). Today, the Battalion operates within the ARCENT Area of Operation (AOR) in countries such as Kuwait, Iraq, Afghanistan, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, and UAE supporting joint military forces and government agencies such as the U.S. Department of State.

Job summary

About the Position: Inspects contractor's performance at owner's residence and at warehouse during packaging, packing, crating, loading, shipping, unloading, uncrating, and unpacking. This is a TERM position Not to Exceed 13 months but may be extended up to a maximum of 8 years. This position may be made permanent without further competition. Major duties

Identifies and checks to see that loading or unloading is done in a way to prevent damage and contract specifications are being followed. Ensures the customer understands the contractor and their own personal responsibilities in connection with the shipment of their personal property. Processes inbound/outbound inspection data through Transportation Operational Property System (TOPS), Defense Property System (DPS) and/or other required systems. Inspects contractor’s warehouses to determine that storage methods are proper, adequate protection is provided against fire, flooding, insects, vermin, and facility is receiving adequate community fire and police protection.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes utilizing a variety of transportation regulations to assist in the packing and/or storage of a wide range of shipments related to personal property and/or shipment of privately owned vehicles; utilizing automated transportation systems to access, retrieve, and/or generate various transportation data and reports. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-6).
