Job summary

About the Position: Serves as a Range Operations Training Technician responsible for accomplishing the day-to-day control and enforcement of the range management and safety program as well as train and certify soldiers on assigned small arms weapons trainers or target systems. This includes planning, directing, and coordinating the range functions and training activities of the operations.

Major duties

Inspects ranges before, during and after live fire for area police and continued operation of facility in accordance with directives and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Delivers training through lectures, demonstrations, and/ or practical exercises for multiple training devices. Performs pre-operational calibration and post operational maintenance checks and services on training systems. Conducts before and final inspections of areas and facilities to ensure operability. Provides briefings to personnel in charge of training units to include safety considerations, emergency procedures, etc.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes monitoring day to day control and enforcement of the range management and safety program during live fire exercises; Providing instructions on operating multiple training aids, devices and simulators; And coordinating training resource assistance to active-duty units conducting training and testing activities. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). OR Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Attention to Detail Education and Training Program Administration Mechanical Oral Communication Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05).
