Job summary

About the position: The primary purpose of this position is to assist the Outdoor Recreation Director located in the Outdoor Recreation Center of the 35th Force Support Squadron, Misawa AB. This is a Regular Full-Time position; guaranteed 35 hours per week but may work up to 40 hours a week depending on the needs of the facility. Military Spouse Preference IS lost if selected for this position.

Major duties

The incumbent is responsible for assisting the Outdoor Recreation Director in the economic and efficient operation of the Outdoor Recreation program to include planning and maintaining year-round recurring and nonrecurring outdoor recreation programs. Oversees daily operations in all programs assigned to the Outdoor Recreation Program. Performs the full range of personnel management responsibilities to include: evaluates performance, approves leave, trains employees on job functions, recruitment efforts, resolution of minor complaints, and disciplinary actions. Assists the ODR Director with the development, coordination, and administration of a broad range of land and water outdoor recreation activities with strong conservancy and environmental preservation coordination responsibilities. Assists with the preparation of the budget, analyzing financial results and maintaining solid financial condition of the outdoor recreation program. Develops administrative operating procedures in safety of personnel and patrons, funds protection, equipment, and properties. Continuously evaluates the effectiveness of on-going outdoor recreation activities from the standpoint of particular response, resources and program objectives. Maintains responsibility for forecasting sales, fees and charges as well as ensuring supplies, personnel expenses, promotional expenses and other operating expenses are accounted for. Assists with the marketing, publicity, and training programs for the Outdoor Recreation program. In the absence of the ODR Director, assumes responsibility for the Outdoor Recreation program under the direction of the Community Services Flight Chief. May work an uncommon tour of duty to include days, nights, weekends, and holiday. *This is a drug testing dedicated position. Must possess skill in dealing with customers and public. Must communicate effectively orally and in writing. Must satisfactorily complete a Tier 1 background check. Must have a valid driver's license. Must satisfactorily complete a pre-employment drug test. A knowledge of local and host nation laws and regulations regarding transportation, wildlife, firearms, boating, recreational permits, and licensing is highly desirable.
