Job summary

You will serve as a SUPERVISORY MAINTENANCE ZONE MANAGER in the CRANE MAINTENANCE DIVISION (CODE 730), DEPUTY LIFITING AND HANDLING (L&H) DEPARTMENT (CODE 701), LIFTING AND HANDLING DEPARTMENT (CODE 700) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Major duties

You will be directly responsible for the overhaul, maintenance and repair of Norfolk Naval Shipyard's heavy-lift equipment, transporters, locomotives, railcars, mobile cranes, ELPARs, floater cranes, dive boats and in some cases, selected cranes. You will study crane maintenance problems and recommends or institutes corrective action, as necessary. You will direct, through subordinate supervisors, all maintenance/repair of weight handling equipment (WHE) in the assigned area, adhering to time, cost, safety and quality standards. You will analyze work schedules and participates in the establishment of broad Lifting and Handling goals and milestones. You will consult with subordinate supervisors to determine work load capacity and make adjustments to work priorities in order to comply with established milestones and changing work conditions. You will be responsible for providing basic information to the Manger of the Crane Maintenance Division for the preparation of the Crane Maintenance Division portion of the shop's budget. You will contribute to the development of Standard Process Instructions that relate to the Lifting and Handling Department trades and to the development of follow-up plans. You will participate in various shipyard management briefs to inform other departments of those issues of concern to the Crane Maintenance Division and Lifting and Handling Department.

Qualification

To qualify for a GS-12, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience applying project management, quality control, cost control, schedule control and workflow control techniques related to weight handling maintenance operation in support of ship repair projects. Experience investigating and analyzing practices and problems and recommending/initiating effective improvements and solutions. Experience displaying comprehensive and intensive practical knowledge of weight handling equipment maintenance methods, procedures, materials, processes, and record keeping equipment procedures used in supporting major industrial ship repairs, facilities, plant, and equipment.
