Major duties

NON APPROPRIATED FUNDS POSITION DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE: Recreation Specialist BUSINESS TITLE: Sports Coordinator FLSA: Non-exempt JOB SERIES: 0188 PAY LEVEL: NF-03 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Organizes tournaments at the installation level for intra theater and island wide open competition; and organizing events involving both the military and DOD civilians for this community, which includes both major and minor sports, team and individual sports, and conducting competitive events for camp, intra theater, and regional. Submits required after action reports, CG Cup weekly standings, CG Cup post season tournament standings, Sports Official usage reports, and such other reports as required by the Camp Athletic Director and the Semper Fit Operations Athletic Section. Ensures a well rounded program that meets the requirements of a diverse population, with such sports programs as softball, basketball, volleyball, football, golf, tennis, bowling, racquetball, wrestling, soccer, power lifting and martial arts and such other activities. Responsibilities include administration, logistics, procurement of supplies and material, arranging for publicity and media support. Coordinates all field maintenance, which includes preparation for formal competitive events as well as recreational use. Submits an annual sport budget to the Camp Athletic Director and helps in monitoring the approved budget for the sports program during each sporting event. Provides World Class Customer Service with an emphasis on courtesy. Assists customers and communicates positively in a friendly manner. Takes action to solve problems quickly. Alerts the higher-level supervisor, or proper point of contact for help when problems arise. Adheres to safety regulations and standards. Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor. Adheres to established standards of actively supporting the principles of the EEO program and prevention of sexual harassment. Performs other additional tasks and duties as assigned by the Camp Athletic Director or Camp Assistant Athletic Director.

Qualification

BASIC REQUIREMENTS: Must have Bachelor degree or 3 years' experience in any sports-related field, OR, one year experience in sports coordination or sports program management, OR, a combination of education and experience that the candidate can demonstrate the ability to perform the duties in this PD. Must be able to accommodate a flexible work schedule to include weekends, holidays and night time. Must be able to obtain CPR/First Aid/AED certification. Must be able to obtain and maintain a health card. A valid Government Owned Vehicle (GOV) operator's permit is required for the performance of duties for this position. Inability to obtain or maintain appropriate GOV licensing may result in termination for lack of qualifications. The incumbent is required to obtain required GOV licenses within 30 days of hire. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Experience and knowledge of the needs and methods necessary in organizing and conducting a military sports program. Knowledge in the various environmental, safety, hygiene, and health considerations relevant to an athletic program. Skills in effectively organizing and utilizing the available resources within the program framework. Skills in dealing with cross cultural differences and multi-lingual persons in the work force. Ability and skills to lead and supervise sports events as well as staff working for the events. This activity is a Drug-free workplace.
