Job summary
About the Position: Position may be filled as a term appointment NTE 1 year 1 day. Term appointments may be extended beyond six (6) years, up to eight (8) years. With DoD approval, term appointments may be extended beyond eight (8) years. Current permanent Federal employees (to include permanent Army employees) applying for a term appointment will be appointed/converted into a term appointment with no statutory return rights back to a permanent position.
Major duties
Pass on to other workers instructions received from supervisor, and start work (e.g., by assigning the immediate tasks to be performed by individual members of the group led). Ensure that needed plans, blueprints, material, and tools are available and that needed stock is obtained from supply locations. Answer workers questions regarding procedures, policies, written instructions, and other directives (e.g., technical orders); obtains needed information or decisions from the supervisor on problems that come up during the work. Work along with other workers, setting the pace.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to Lead of a Sheet Metal Mechanic Leader . Have the ability to perform common lead duties to include ensuring that needed plans, blueprints, material, and tools are available and that needed stock is obtained from supply locations; Seeing to it that there is enough work to keep everyone in work crew busy; Checking work in progress and when finished; Checking for compliance with supervisors instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods and deadlines; Urging or advising other employees to follow supervisor's instructions and to meet deadlines; Demonstrating proper work methods. I work under normal supervision of supervisor who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. ABILITY TO INTERPRET INSTRUCTIONS, SPECIFICATIONS ETC. (INCLUDING BLUEPRINT READING) Ability To Lead or Supervise Ability to Use Hand Tools, Power Tools, etc., for Metal Work Dexterity (Assembly Disassembly Reassembly etc) Knowledge of Equipment, Structure, Materials, etc. (includes constructing repair, and forging) Layout and Pattern Development (includes Geometric Projection and Triangulation) PHYSICAL EFFORT Stands, climbs, reaches, lifts and bends in performing duties. Also required to work in cramped and awkward positions. Weight lifted seldom exceeds 50 pounds. WORKING CONDITIONS Works inside, as well as outside. Employee is exposed to noise and vibration. Also subject to cuts, bruises, falls and burns. Required to wear appropriate safety equipment.
