About the Position: You will serve as Secretary & Executive Assistant (EA) to the Foreign Policy Advisor (FPA) to the Commander, U.S. Africa Command (USAFRICOM), and office manager for the Office of the FPA (J001).
Major duties
Serve as Secretary and primary Executive Assistant (EA) to U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) Foreign Policy Advisor (FPA), a Department of State Senior Foreign Service Officer. Serve as primary point of contact for the FPA office for supporting VIP and other official visits and AFRICOM events Liaise with U.S. Embassies, senior-level flag officers, AFRICOM Directorates, senior officials at the Department of State, the Department of Defense and the Joint Staff offices coordinating a broad range of administrative matters. Prepare travel arrangements for the FPA using own initiative, direction, and knowledge. Use automated data processing equipment to prepare in final form a variety of narrative and tabular materials such as correspondence, reports, charts, statistical tables, manuals, technical papers, staff studies and messages. Resolve emergency and other contingent situations, often of a sensitive nature, using own initiative based on thorough understanding of AFRICOM's mission and priorities, the FPA's views, established regulations and standing FPA Office policies. Receive, establish, and direct tasks needing FPA attention via the AFRICOM task management tool (TMT). Communicate clearly, promptly and succinctly regarding all substantive and administrative issues that arise. Serve as primary point of contact for the FPA office for supporting VIP and other official visits and AFRICOM events.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) utilizing automated office software systems to produce executive office correspondence i.e., reports, charts, spreadsheets; coordinating meetings, briefings, conferences and/or travel arrangements; 2) receiving and handling executive level customers of management officials; and 3) scheduling and monitoring management and staff activities using applications such as MS Office and/or task management tools. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08). Proficiency Required: This position requires a typing proficiency of at least 40 words per minute (WPM) based on a 5 minute sample with 3 or fewer errors. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Administration and Management Clerical Decision Making Oral Communication Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-08).
