NONAPPROPRIATED FUND POSITION DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE: Recreation Specialist (SCUBA) BUSINESS TITLE: SCUBA Instructor FLSA: Non-exempt JOB SERIES: 0188 PAY LEVEL: NF-03 SUMMARY OF DUTIES: The purpose of this position is to provide SCUBA course instruction to patrons of the MCCS SCUBA Program. In addition, this position will be responsible for assisting with the administration, direction, execution, and promotion of a year-round, multilevel SCUBA training programs offered by the MCCS SCUBA Program. This position may be asked to assist with retail services and rental services. Provides SCUBA class instruction to all levels for which the employee is authorized to teach. These courses will be taught in support of MCCS to all authorized patrons. Verifies patron's entitlement of privilege to use services by requesting proper documentation or by presentation of Armed Forces ID card. Checks patron's SCUBA certification card as required for gear rental. Verifies SCUBA instructor's certification as required to check out class equipment. Assists the training department of the MCCS SCUBA Program in by working with Contract Instructors and helping solve any problems related to the work environment and job functions. Deals effectively with other employees in regard to suggestions, complaints, and other personnel matters. Assists in the training of retail floor staff on product knowledge and application in the sport of SCUBA and Freediving. Assists other instructors, MCCS staff and Contracted instructors, with SCUBA training courses. Offers guidance to new Instructors and new methods of accomplishing assignments. Provides World Class Customer Service with an emphasis on courtesy. Assists customers and communicates positively in a friendly manner. Takes action to solve problems quickly. Alerts the higher-level supervisor, or proper point of contact for help when problems arise. Adheres to safety regulations and standards. Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor. Adheres to established standards of actively supporting the principles of the EEO program and prevention of sexual harassment. Performs other related duties as assigned. This is a mixed position where the incumbent must be able to lift and carry objects up to 45lbs independently and objects over 45lbs with assistance is required, while performing normal duties in the area. May perform work that poses physical demands beyond normal requirements. Work may be performed in settings where exposure to moderate discomforts, high temperatures, and/or adverse weather conditions while on duty. Must be able to work irregular hours to include nights, weekends, and/or holidays on a rotating basis. Travel from base to base will be required.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS: Must be at least 18 years old. Must be a certified Professional Association of Dive Instructors (PADI) Master SCUBA Dive Trainer (MSDT) in good standing OR equal rating from another agency AND can crossover to PADI within three (3) month of employment. Must be knowledgeable in all Professional Divers Standards and Procedures AND not had a negative QRC in the past 12 months. Must be eligible to complete IDC Staff Instructor Rating within six (6) months of employment. Must possess or able to obtain certification as CPR/First Aid Instructor Trainer with in six (6) months of employment. Must possess or able to obtain a current US Forces Japan form 4EJ, Operators Permit for Civilian Vehicle. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Knowledge and experience in teaching the following courses: Open Water, Advanced Open Water, Rescue Diver, Divemaster, Assistant Instructor and other specialty courses noted. Must have a high degree of knowledge of general and specific safety procedures pertaining to SCUBA. Must possess a high degree of knowledge in underwater physics, underwater physiology, diving equipment, diving safety, and diving first aid. Must be able to perform general customer service functions to include operating the service counter, operating the air fill station, open and close the facility. Must be able to work harmoniously with others and have good communication skills. A valid Government Owned Vehicle (GOV) operator's permit is required for the performance of duties for this position. Inability to obtain or maintain appropriate GOV licensing may result in termination for lack of qualifications. The incumbent is required to obtain required GOV licenses within 30 days of hire. Must be able to obtain and maintain a National Agency Check with Inquiries and State Criminal History Repository Check (Tier 1) with Childcare background checks which are required for positions that involve working with children under the age of 18.
