About the Position: The primary purpose of the position is to serve as a Public Safety Telecommunicator (Office Automation) for the Directorate of Emergency Services for Fort Riley, KS.

Major duties

Answers 911 calls, conducts emergency and non-emergency call processing using Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) consoles or CAD capability through NG911 modernization, if applicable, and or Land Mobile Radios (LMR). Performs crisis intervention with distraught emergency callers during high-risk situations. Determines required assets and dispatches appropriate police, fire, and EMS personnel and vehicles/apparatus. Operates supporting communication equipment including but not limited to administrative and direct line telephones. Maintains complete and accurate records, reports, and logs on all communication traffic, assigned vehicle movements, patient transport, personnel, and vehicle status in accordance with operational policies and procedures.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Answering emergency and/or non-emergency calls for police, fire, or ambulance assistance; 2) Dispatching emergency personnel as needed in accordance with priority level procedures; and 3) Operating communications software to perform dispatching duties such as: log calls, prepare reports of activities, and assist with medical dispatching until appropriate emergency units arrive. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). OR Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Business Administration OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages. In addition to the requirement above, this position requires a typing proficiency of at least 40 words per minute (WPM) based on a 5 minute sample with 3 or fewer errors. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Customer Service Interpersonal Skills Manages and Organizes Information Technical Competence Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06).
