About the Position: As a Public Safety Dispatcher the incumbent will provide emergency police, fire and medical services to the public by answering 911 calls, and dispatches appropriate personnel and equipment. Maintains an accurate status of emergency response equipment and personnel to assure prompt and accurate response.

Major duties

Provide emergency services to the public by answering emergency 911 calls and responding with appropriate personnel and equipment. Monitor computerized fire alarm systems and other alarm systems such as Joint Capabilities Integration Development System (ICIDS) alarm systems. Maintain an accurate status of all emergency response equipment and personnel to ensure prompt and accurate response. Operate Computer Aided Dispatching (CAD) system, telephones, radios, and station alerting systems. Provide initial Incident Command support until responding emergency units arrive on scene. Provide emergency medical dispatching assistance to callers with medical emergencies.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which involves operating multi-line telephones, computers or radio equipment to provide information to callers; obtaining detailed information from callers and inputting data collected into databases and software systems; communicating orally to a wide range of people to obtain and provide information; and complying with standard operating procedures in a fast-paced and changing environment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.
