Major duties

Major Duties: This is not an all-inclusive list A POLICE OFFICER, GS, 0083, 8, (1) Performs Combat Arms Training. Presents repetitive courses or designated blocks of longer courses and presents training material and instruction covering proper use of handguns, rifles, machine guns and other base defense/ground combat skills equipment, in accordance with approved lesson plans and course control documents. Instruction may take place in outdoor or indoor training facilities and will require multiple police/combat agility skill demonstrations. Instructor makes adjustments in presentation or other instructional methods to resolve common classroom problems, to include those of student motivation and communication, as well as, last minute agenda schedule or student changes, student problems, equipment malfunctions, or lack of supplies. Uses training aids and devices in addition to those listed in the POI in a manner that enhances training outcome. Adjusts subject matter discussions to assure material is assimilated by all students. Applies specialized subject matter knowledge in course instruction. Maintains accountability and ensures security for weapons/ammunition/explosives utilized in the course of instruction in accordance with applicable Air Force Instructions. (2) May oversee the work activities of subordinates and Traditional Guardsmen. Trains employees in assigned duties and responsibilities. Assigns work, establishes priorities, and ensures technical quality of work products. (3) Manages and oversees the installation ground weapons training and maintenance program; serves as an instructor and inspects ground weapons. Plans, organizes, and directs the activities of the installation's ground weapons training and maintenance program, incorporating safety requirements, and maintains adherence to safety regulations. Promptly evaluates accidents to determine cause and ensure safety guidelines are followed and necessary precautions are taken to prevent further occurrences. Performs self- inspections and presents detailed reports to senior leadership. Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, policies, and procedures. Monitors special environmental requirements, such as lead removal. Coordinates with the local Civil Engineering Squadron personnel on various issues, to include development of a joint hazardous waste disposal site and procedures that comply with local environmental laws. Monitors the environment for noise hazards, health problems, and all other safety hazards. Directs and monitors security/resources protection program and procedures. Monitors explosive safety and munitions movement's safety procedures. Notifies appropriate unit commanders of current no-shows rates and third time failures, initiates follow-up actions, and briefs data, as directed. Oversees and assists with the maintenance and inspection of all ground weapons assigned to the installation or covered by host tenant support agreements. Submits forecast and requisition for training weapons, equipment, tools, gauges, target material, and expendable items. Validates the annual munitions allocation product. Develops and publishes local operating instructions (OIs) and reviews other directives for updates as needed. Prepares annual budget to ensure proper funding for program management. Oversees establishing, updating, and maintaining office records of various types. Requisitions office supplies, printing support, and related material. Conducts training classes for military and/or civilians to meet established training/qualification goals. Determines training needs by analyzing requirements and comparing student individual skills with job standards to identify training requirements. As needed, reviews training course materials. Develops training objectives related to training requirements and materials. On a continual basis, develops tests to effectively evaluate students' current comprehension levels and strives to improve their work performance. Makes minor repairs on small arms, using tools, gauges, and equipment. Provides sub-depot level maintenance on ground weapons, assembling and disassembling all small arms utilized in security forces inventory. (4) Represents the Security Forces Squadron (SFS) with a variety of installation and functional area organizations. Provides SFS position on ground combat weapons issued at installation conferences and task group meetings. Coordinates and maintains liaisons with local civilian agencies on matters concerning weapons training and maintenance. Meets with key customer and coordinating officials to assess customer satisfaction, explain organization policy and procedures and resolve problems that arise. Provides or ensures that subordinates provide customer guidance and training. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT MN Air National Guard Membership is required. if you are unsure you are eligible for military membership, contact a Air National Guard recruiter prior to applying. Applicants who are not currently a member of the MN Air National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the Air Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement. Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment. Irregular and/or overtime (compensatory) hours may be required. The employee is required to properly carry, maintain, load, unload and fire various weapons. The employee will have resource protection (weapons and ammunition) responsibilities that could include the use of deadly force. Employee must successfully complete annual/recurring requirements specified for the position. Courses include: Law of Armed Conflict, Explosive Safety, Professional and Unprofessional relationships, Suicide Awareness, and other programs as directed by the Security Forces Commander. ***Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation*** Upon selection, individuals will undergo a background check to validate suitability for employment with the federal government as permitted by law, regulation, Presidential order or other authority. Suitability is dependent upon the particular requirements for security clearance, sensitivity level, and DOD IT network access. Items checked include, but are not limited to all criminal history record information, employment history, education and fiscal accountability/responsibility.** MILITARY COMPATIBILITY: Upon selection, individuals will undergo a background check to validate suitability for employment with the federal government as permitted by law, regulation, Presidential order or other authority. Suitability is dependent upon the particular requirements for security clearance, sensitivity level, and DOD IT network access. Items checked include, but are not limited to criminal history record information, employment history, education and fiscal accountability/responsibility. The individual selected must be assigned to a compatible military position and also maintain satisfactory membership in the MN Air Guard.

Qualification

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. GENERAL AND SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS: 1 year equivalent to at least next lower grade level. Experience that provided knowledge of a body of basic laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, practices, and techniques and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property. Creditable specialized experience may have been gained in work on a police force; through service as a military police officer; in work providing visitor protection and law enforcement in parks, forests, or other natural resource or recreational environments; in performing criminal investigative duties; or in other work that provided the required knowledge and skills. The maximum entry age for DoD Law Enforcement is 37. An individual not appointed by the last day of the month in which the individual becomes age 37 will not be originally appointed or assigned to these positions

Evaluations

AREAS OF PRIORITY: In Accordance with MN National Guard Regulation 690-335 (Army) or 36-1 (Air), Applications will be forwarded to the selection official to conduct reviews by area of priority as listed below Area 1: Current On-board Minnesota National Guard Title 32 Technicians who are in permanent or indefinite technician status as a result of being competitively hired within that National Guard component applying for a position within the component which they are currently employed. Area 2: Current Minnesota National Guard Title 32 Technicians who are in permanent or indefinite technician status as a result of being competitively hired at a sister component that is identified on the Position Vacancy Announcement (PVA), including onboard Title 5 employees that are also current members of MNNG; i.e. Army MNNG to Air MNNG, Air MNNG to Army MNNG. Area 3: All Minnesota National Guard members currently assigned to the MNANG or to the MNARNG applying for a position within the component in which they are currently assigned. i.e. temporary technician or Traditional Guardsman. Area 4: Currently assigned service members in other branches of the military outside of the Minnesota National Guard, to include those assigned to Active Duty, Reserve or other state's National Guard. Area 5: All individuals able to and willing to become members of the Minnesota National Guard including prior service not currently assigned to a military component and non-prior service US civilians.
