Job summary
This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce in Competitive Service to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This position is with the US Army Corps of Engineer Memphis District, Operations Division, Physical Support Branch, Plant Section, Shops Unit. Serves as subject matter expert and devotes some time to pipefitting and plumbing work.
Major duties
Receives work assignments to repair, extend and relocate water and steam lines, fuel and oil lines, and air and refrigeration systems Works from available blueprints or sketches or makes own at job sites to complete pipefitting and plumbing installations. Makes connections from main water lines and determines drain lines from opening or fixtures. Installs permanent fixtures such as lavatories, sinks, tanks, showers and commodes. Utilize and maintain hand and power tools such as wrenches, hammers, plumb bob, levels, hacksaw, pipe cutter, threader and torches to cut, bend, and threads. Observes safety rules in carrying out work assignments to prevent injury to self, other workmen and to prevent property damage. Drives a pick-up truck, or other vehicles up to and including 1-ton capacity with trailers, to transport personnel, materials, tools, and equipment to and from job sites and vendor locations and regularly drives on public roads.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element) WG-10: Ability to do the work of a Pipefitter without more than normal supervision such as repairing and modifying piping systems of plants such as towboats, dredges, tenders, dry docks, landing barges and fuel barges; performing plumbing work on water systems, fire lines, and steam lines from central heating plant; and utilizing and maintaining hand and power tools such as wrenches, pipe threaders, and cutters to operate on piping and plumbing systems. PHYSICAL EFFORTEmployee performs duties from ladders, scaffolding, platforms, and where the systems and equipment are in hard-to-reach places. This requires standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Incumbent frequently handles, lifts, and carries parts or equipment that weigh up to 50 pounds. Occasionally may lift and carry items that weigh more. WORKING CONDITIONSWorks inside and outside in damp places, water, mud and close quarters. Is subject to infection from unsanitary work sites, such as sewers, waste traps, traps and other breeding places for bacteria. Is subject to severe injury when using power operating, threading and bending machines, hot lead, and caustic soda. Such operations constitute a relative short part of the working day. When working on floating plant is subject to falling overboard.
