Job summary

You will serve as a PAINTER LEADER in the COATINGS and SERVICES SHOP, PRODUCTION RESOURCES DEPARTMENT of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Major duties

You will read and interpret and correctly follow complex written instructions, drawings, specifications, engineering standards, and manufactures requirements. You will plan, organize, coordinate, and implement numerous quality-related issues and elements as they relate to the requirements and documentation of critical coated areas. You will keep supervisor updated on status and progress of work, causes of delays, and overall work operations and problems. You will assign immediate tasks to crew members and provide written and oral directions. You will perform other duties as assigned.

Qualification

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO LEAD OR SUPERVISE: Operating complex equipment such as High Volume Low Pressure (HVLP) sprays, airless pumps, and blasting equipment to prepare and coat interior and exterior surfaces. Identifying coating materials to mix, match, tint, and tone surfaces. Interpreting instructions policies and procedures, drawings, specifications, and standards pertaining to painting. Using a variety of knifing and troweling compounds to build up, shape, and level. Applying paints at required mil thicknesses.
