Job summary

About the Position: This is a 0400 (OPEN) MIXED TEACHER/SPECIALIST POSITION (see Position Requirements), located at Ankara Elementary/High School. This vacancy announcement is open to all current, permanent DoDEA-Europe AND DoDEA-Pacific Educators, which includes current, permanent educators in Cuba. Major duties

Selects, adapts, or modifies teaching methods or materials that experience indicates will be most effective in teaching the assigned grade level(s) and subject matter Possesses a repertoire of strategies to accommodate the differentiated needs of learners Supports, counsels, and motivates students to meet or exceed grade-level standards Contributes to creating a school climate conducive to learning, achievement, and citizenship Participates in professional development opportunities, as appropriate Collaborates with other teachers, parents and guardians on matters impacting student learning Plans, develops, and organizes long-range lesson plans and daily class work to ensure in-depth learning within the timeframe allotted to meet the course/curriculum content standards

Effective January 2009, DoDEA changed its business process for rating professional teacher applications. Minimum Academic Preparation and Requirements and Information, to include State endorsements (as DoDEA determines comparable to DoDEA's teacher categories), official transcripts reflecting 50%, (12/24 or 15/30 semester hours) of the course work in the content area, AND professional teacher education (9/18 semester hours), must be considered with each position, where applicable. Minimum Academic Preparation and Requirements. A baccalaureate degree from an institution accredited by a regional accrediting association is required. Academic preparation of at least 40 semester hours (SH) in general education course work distributed over such fields as English, history, social studies, mathematics, fine arts, languages, science, philosophy, and psychology is required. In addition, a minimum of 18 SH of professional teacher education course work in such areas as learning process, tests and measurement, educational philosophy, psychology, social foundations, methods of teaching and curriculum applicable to the type and level of the position for which applying is required. (Note: Speech Language Pathologists, Social Workers, School Nurses, School Psychologists, JROTC Instructors, and non-certified Training Instructors are excluded from the minimum academic preparation requirement.) Requirements for 0420 (Elementary Teacher, Mildly to Moderately Learning Impaired) A major in special education or a minimum of 30 semester hours in special education is required. Course work may include diagnostic-prescriptive type instruction, curriculum based assessment and instruction, remediation activities, educable mentally disabled and behavior disorders. AND Requirements for 0422 (Secondary Teacher, Mildly to Moderately Learning Impaired) A major in special education or a minimum of 30 semester hours in special education is required. Course work may include diagnostic-prescriptive type instruction, curriculum based assessment and instruction, remediation activities, educable mentally disabled and behavior disorders. AND Requirements for 0472 (Teacher, Speech/Language Pathologist (formerly Communications Impaired Teacher) A master's degree in speech/language pathology is required. Course work should include training in basic audiology and speech disorders. A SLP license issued by a State Board of Health will be only be accepted IF the applicant has completed a SLP internship in a school setting OR they have 7+ years of SLP work experience in a school setting. Otherwise, the Praxis I tests are required OR the applicant must obtain a SLP license issued by a State Board of Education. A second category is not required. AND Requirements for 0421 (Middle Teacher, Mildly to Moderately Learning Impaired) A major in special education or a minimum of 30 semester hours in special education is required. Course work may include diagnostic-prescriptive type instruction, curriculum based assessment and instruction, remediation activities, educable mentally disabled and behavior disorders. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:

Education

Credits or degrees earned from a foreign college or university must be evaluated prior to acceptance. Three evaluation procedures are acceptable: the work must be evaluated and interpreted by a current member of National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES). This website provides a list of current organizations who can perform your evaluation. You must select and work directly with one of these organizations. the foreign institution that awarded the degree is on a list endorsed by a regionally accredited university or on a list endorsed by a state department of education for the purpose of teacher certification in that state (this procedure will require an English translation of the transcript and a copy of the document awarding the degree, together with an authenticated list produced by an American university or a state department of education); and the work may be evaluated by the graduate division of a regionally accredited university and declared the equivalent of similar undergraduate or graduate work in a U.S. institution. Graduates of non-accredited institutions may have their undergraduate work validated by admittance to graduate school and completion of a minimum of 5 SH of credit in a regionally accredited graduate college.
