Job summary

About the Position: The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) New England District (NAE) is headquartered in Concord, MA and is responsible for managing the Corps' civil works, military, and other program responsibilities throughout the six New England states. As an Office Automation Assistant in our Management Support Group, you will provide a wide variety of administrative and project support to both Engineering & Planning Divisions (approximately 180 personnel).

Major duties

Provide administrative support to all offices within the Engineering/Planning Division. Prepare correspondence in accordance with established standards. Compile information and generate reports using Microsoft Office. Perform a variety of clerical and administrative support work for time, attendance, and labor reports. Enter information into automated information systems for supervisor approval. Provide timely and accurate customer service. Provide direct assistance to Chiefs and Deputy Chiefs of Engineering and Planning Divisions. Purchase office supplies and maintain inventory.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. GS-06:Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience is defined as meeting 4 out of 6 of the following: 1) Perform office administrative tasks in accordance with office policy; 2) generate recurring reports; 3) prepare correspondence in Microsoft Word in accordance with established standards; 4) enter time and attendance data; 5) maintain training and other personnel records; and 6) coordinate the proper management of technical records per office policy. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). OR Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Business Administration. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages. GS-07: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience is defined as meeting 4 out of 6 of the following: 1) Provide guidance to others on office administrative tasks; 2) compile data and create custom reports in Excel; 3) properly format technical documents in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel; 4) troubleshoot time and attendance data; 5) maintain inventory of office supplies; and/or 6) allocate funds as directed using a financial management system. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). OR Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Business Administration. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages. Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.
