Major duties

Performs material receipt, storage, and issue operations in all warehouse locations. Works independently to store and stage material in proper warehouse locations, depending upon the nature of the item; places material in appropriate designated areas for new receipts; items awaiting inspection; rejected items; and items pending transfer, issue, or disposal. Uses computer and barcode equipment to process transactions for appropriate material data systems. Loads and unloads material from trucks and other conveyances and moves material throughout warehouse areas. The incumbent independently operates Material Handling Equipment (MHE) in performance of this work. Uses appropriate MHE for handling of material and takes action to ensure that material is properly secured pallets and protected from exposure to the elements.

Qualification

To qualify for a Materials Handler (FLO) your resume and supporting documentation must support: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the Office of Personnel Management Qualification Standard for Trades and Labor Occupations. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties at the level for which you are applying. Emphasis is placed on how you gained the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time, and the required ability or potential to perform the job. Applicants who do not meet the screen-out element (SOE) will be eliminated from further competition. The SOE and minimum qualifications for this position is: I perform the common tasks of the job to be filled but under close supervision, such as moving, storing, picking, and packing materials for storage and/or shipment. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Effort: The employee stands on hard surfaces for extended periods of time. The work requires bending, stooping, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions, many times all at the same time. Regularly handles weights of up to 40 pounds unassisted. Occasionally handles weights up to 60 pounds. Uses weight handling equipment or receives assistance from other workers for items heavier than 60 pounds. The work requires light to moderate physical effort in reaching, bending, turning, or moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to operate hand and foot controls while driving, raising, lowering, and tilting materials handling equipment. Working Conditions: The work is usually performed indoors in well-lighted and ventilated shop areas. The incumbent: is regularly exposed to shop noises, dirt, fumes, and vibrations; works in narrow aisles and in areas where there is frequent vehicular or pedestrian traffic; is regularly exposed to possible injuries associated with handling equipment and materials; and may be exposed to a variety of outdoor conditions for short periods of time. The work may require use of protective clothing such as steel toed shoes, respirators, safety glasses and earplugs. Mechanized roller conveyors may be present as a normal part of material routing and distribution. The employee must possess or be able to obtain and maintain all appropriate state and government licenses.

Evaluations
