Job summary

Major duties

• Examines, identifies and verifies a variety of materials, complete equipment items, technical components, parts, and commodities. • Receives, checks, verifies, sorts and classifies materials and equipment by stock number, size, classification and condition. • Uses technical manuals to identify and verify materials. • Determines the correct condition code, classification, repairability or non-repairability of items and estimates economic feasibility or cost of repair. • Initiates records to document receiving and processing discrepancies and material defects found during phases of examination. • Operates forklifts with a capacity of lifting loads weighing up to 15,000 lbs and related materials handling equipment to deliver, relocate, up-load, off-load, and move materials and equipment.

Qualification

Applicants will be rated in accordance with the Office of Personnel Management Qualification Standard for Trades and Labor Occupations. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties at the level for which you are applying. Emphasis is placed on how you gained the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time, and the required ability or potential to perform the job. Applicants who do not meet the screen-out element (SOE) will be eliminated from further competition. The SOE and minimum qualifications for this position is: Ability to do the work of a Materials Examiner & Identifier (FLO) without more than normal supervision Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Effort Work requires standing on hard surfaces for extended periods of time. Requires active physical effort including extensive walking, bending, stooping and pushing and pulling of heavy material along conveyor lines in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds, may lift greater weights with assistance. Working Conditions Work is performed within a warehousing environment. Duties are performed inside or outside in areas that are hot, cold or damp. Subject to dusty, dirty, or greasy conditions. Individual is regularly exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, bruises, abrasions, falls and injuries from falling items. Subject to hazards of working close to moving equipment, trucks and conveyor lines. Required to utilize appropriate protective clothing and equipment in accordance with job requirements where possible hazardous conditions exist.

Evaluations

The assessments for this job will measure the following Job Elements/Competencies: Ability to do the work of a Materials Examiner & Identifier (FLO) without more than normal supervision (SOE) Technical Practices Knowledge of Materials Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (other than blueprints) Skill in Dexterity and Safety Open-Continuous Cut-off Information: An initial cut-off date of August 28, 2024 will be used to evaluate candidates for the initial available vacancies.
