IOWA ARMY NATIONAL GUARD - TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION This position is restricted to current Military members of the Iowa Army National Guard. LOCATION: AASF 1, Boone, IA
Major duties
As a MATERIALS EXAMINER AND IDENTIFIER, WG-6912-7 your duties are below. (1) Identifies and handles hazardous materials in storage areas. Insures the safe receipt, storage and movement of hazardous and toxic materials and substances such as ammunition, explosives, chemicals, or radioactive materials in accordance with facility and regulatory requirements. Determines storage requirements, arrangement of materials, and space utilization. Insures compliance with Federal, State, Department of Defense (DoD), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rules or regulations. (2) Responsible to identify, collect, process and consolidate hazardous waste in preparation for disposal. The incumbent is required to identify, safely process, package, and ship or dispose of a wide variety of hazardous chemicals, products and materials. Responsible to insure compliance with environmental rules, regulations and practices relating to hazardous waste material treatment and disposal. Uses computer skills to retrieve data pertaining to storage, and processing of hazardous wastes. Manages thefacility hazardous materials spill prevention, containment and clean up program tocontrol accidental spills, overflows, and other emergency hazardous waste and materialssituations. The incumbent manages the Material Service Data Sheet (MSDS) library and ensures that all material information is complete, current and accessible to employees. (3) Performs a full range of warehousing activities to include receiving, inspecting for defects, storing, selecting and shipping general or specialized bulk and bin materials and equipment. Develops, or assists in the development of plans for storage and arrangement of stock. Determines warehouse configuration, setup, movement, and space utilization plans in accordance with regulations for a specific commodity or equipment group. (4) Assists with the development of facility regulations, and operating instructions that relate to hazardous materials management and HAZMAT safety procedures. Conducts HAZMAT training for facility personnel, develops lesson plans, course materials, schedules and conducts training. (5) Assist with the accomplishment of normal supply transactions i.e., requisitions, receives, stores, issues and accounts for a wide variety of supplies and equipment. Performs a variety of supply inventories, which require considerable knowledge of the supply system, equipment and components. (6) Required to perform automated system administration functions such as working at a computer terminal to enter data, update or exchange information files, prepare and enter commands to execute established programs and perform nonroutine data searches. Requirements
NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED: This is an excepted position that requires military membership in a compatible military assignment in the Iowa Army National Guard. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of this excepted position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment. Qualification

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Experience or training which demonstrates the ability to distinguish between closely related or similar items, ability to follow procedures, ability to sort materials by type, and skill in the use of hand tools. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: WG-6912-7: Must have experience in the following: Experience or training identifying and sorting a variety of complex materials and equipment. Experience receiving materials and equipment, recording, and placing items in proper storage areas. Experience preparing all items for shipment using appropriate agency instructions. Knowledge of specialized handling, storing, disposal, and safety procedures related to hazardous materials to ensure adherence to governing regulatory guidance, policies, and procedures. Experience in mathematical equations. Experience interpreting and using Federal Supply Catalogs, military and manufacturing catalogs, and technical and agency manuals. Experience using and operating forklifts and motor vehicles.

Serves as the facility expert and point-of-contact for all matters related to hazardous materials management, control, safety, containment, clean-up, disposal, training, compliance and reporting. (2) Knowledge of Federal, State, DoD, OSHA and EPA rules/regulations sufficient to control, oversee, coordinate and implement the facility Hazardous Materials Management Program. (3) Knowledge of warehouse activities to include receiving, inspecting for defects, storing, selecting and shipping general or specialized equipment and supplies. (4) Knowledge of the overall facility supply, storage, distribution and inventory plan, including supply documentation requirements. (5) Knowledge of inventory and production reports to screen and identify shipping and receiving documents for discrepancies, and direct shipments to shipping or storage areas. (6) Knowledge of computer commands and controls to make data entries, update data and retrieve reports.
