Job summary

You will serve as a MAINTENANCE MECHANIC LEADER in the PUBLIC WORKS DIVISION of NAVFAC SOUTHWEST.

Major duties

You will explain procedures, policies, written instructions, or other directives to others performing maintenance work. You will cooperate with coworkers of other trades to accomplish tasks involving joint efforts. You will coordinate maintenance work assignments among staff to maintain work progress and meet schedules. You will detect and diagnose system malfunctions, disassemble equipment, repair, or replace parts on ordnance equipment. You will install, repair, maintain, troubleshoot and load new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems and associated fixtures, controls and equipment. You will determine the cause of faulty equipment and make repairs on systems that provide air conditioning functions such as heating, cooling, humidifying, cleaning, filtering and circulating.

Qualification

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element for this position is: 1) Using of a wide variety of hand tools, test equipment, power tools, and equipment to perform the work; 2) Planning, laying out, and completing installation, modification, and repair of new and existing electrical and/or mechanical systems; 3) Interpreting building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, engineering documents, drawings, and maintenance and repair manuals to plan work.
