This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base (DIB) & MRTFB in DoD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: The Watervliet Arsenal is an Army-owned & operated manufacturing center located in NY.
Major duties
Performs setup processes and operate all CNC, manual and precision measurement equipment on raw stock to include various metal alloys, castings, forgings, weldments, and other fabrications. Operates tools such as lathes, vertical and horizontal boring mills, bench, plain or universal milling machines, slotters, broaching machines, grinders and radial drills. Reads and interprets blueprint drawings; performs quality checks. Performs precision handiwork to finish, fit and assembles machined parts.
Qualification
POSITION IS ANNOUNCED AS A STANDING REGISTER (OPEN CONTINUOUS RECRUITMENT): First cutoff date to evaluate candidates will be November 12th, 2024. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Machinist ~ without more than normal supervision which includes: (1) Performing machining operations using both conventional and Computerized Numerical Control (CNC) machine tools using close tolerances; (2) Setting-up and operating a variety of machine tools such as: lathes, milling machines, drill presses, grinders or saws; (3) Interpreting blueprints, drawings and sketches; and (4) Working knowledge of the tooling required to produce the features, tolerances and surface finishes to specifications. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Requires standing, stooping, bending and reaching. Required to lift/carry items weighing up to 44 lbs. Mechanical lifting devices/other employees are available to assist with lifts of 45 lbs. and over. WORKING CONDITIONS: Works in a well lighted, heated, and ventilated shop with concrete floors. Exposed to dust from grinding, oil from machines, dirt, heat, noise, and fumes. Subject to the hazards of burns from hot metal chips, dust in lungs, cuts, bruises, and injuries to the hands from the use of machine and hand tools, skin irritation from contact with coolants, lubricants, and abrasive compounds, and subject to strains from infrequent moving, lifting, and handling of heavy items. Wears safety glasses, shoes, and other safety apparel and equipment as required.
