Job summary
This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Perform maintenance for mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical systems at a high-lift lock and dam facility. Performs and participates in a variety of inspections, preventive maintenance and repairs of associated lock and dam appurtenances. Located in Grand Rivers, KY.
Major duties
Inspect, adjust, lubricate, test, install, calibrate, and/or perform major and minor repairs at regularly scheduled intervals. Inspect, troubleshoot, and/or rebuilds diesel and gasoline engines of associated equipment at the facility (such as cranes, construction type equipment, bulkhead hoists, generators, hydraulic pumps, air compressors, etc.). Operate mobile land plant and floating plant equipment. Perform repairs and installations of mechanical systems. Perform preventive maintenance, diagnostic maintenance inspections and rebuilds lock and dam operating systems, machinery, and related equipment at navigational facilities. Perform installation of new equipment, maintenance, repair, overhaul or replacement of parts, systems, equipment, etc., normally associated with the building, grounds and utilities of such facilities. Maintain project administrative maintenance records in connection with all preventive maintenance and repairs for project mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic, mobile land plant, floating plant, and inventory management.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Lock and Dam Equipment Mechanic without more than normal supervision. At a minimum, your level of experience must show that you have: WY-10: Perform common tasks in connection with the installation, alteration, maintenance, and repair of machinery, structures, utilities, and other facilities related to the operation and maintenance of a navigation structure. I perform tasks utilizing methods, tools, and techniques of the trades and crafts (such as carpentry, painting, plumbing, masonry, and mechanics), including concrete/steel fabrication, heavy equipment overhaul, and repair, welding, and/or electrical repair and installation. I can operate a variety of power-driven hand tools and used a variety of hand/electrical tools to accomplish simple maintenance tasks. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. WY-8: Perform simple installation, repair, and maintenance of lock or lock and dam machinery and/or equipment of mechanical or electrical types, concrete work, etc. or I have received training on scheduled day-to-day maintenance and repair work of a lock and dam facility. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. WY-5: perform simple maintenance or repair tasks, or I have received training on the use of basic hand tools such as hammer or screwdriver and can perform simple maintenance associated with these tools. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision Physical Effort: Work requires frequent standing, stooping, stretching, climbing and crouching. Routinely lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds. Uses coordination of eyes, hands, legs and body in installing, repairing, or testing equipment in confined spaces such as manholes, enclosed switchgear structures, or on overhead structures; climbs ladders and poles. Machinery on high lift structures is large and requires the skills of a heavy construction mechanic to effect repair or replacement. Working Conditions: Work is performed indoors and outdoors during the day or night subject to inclement weather, on high structures usually over water that is frequently turbulent, in the proximity of moving machinery and high-tension electrical equipment, on scaffolds and from slings or floating plant. Occasionally will work behind bulkheads or in tunnels below water level. Incumbent is subject to falls, drowning, electrical shocks, injury, or discomfort and when inside, exposure to moving machinery, electrical circuits and loud noises, and at times, dangerous icy conditions. Uses safety equipment such as life vests, protective ear devices, hard hats, hard toe shoes, respirators and protective clothing
