Job summary

You will serve as a LEAD POLICE OFFICER (DESK SERGEANT/PATROL SERGEANT) in the Provost Marshal Office/Marine Corps Police Department of MARFORRES NOLA.

Major duties

You will instruct Field Training Officers (FTO), trainees and police officers on tasks and techniques and provide written instructions, reference materials and supplies; provide on-the-job training to new FTO's. You will assist in planning and directing of watch activities; prepare absentee reports and watch schedules/lists. You will receive reports, maintain desk journals, ensure accuracy of paperwork, maintain key control for buildings and vehicles, issue specialized equipment and checking detention cell. You will distribute and balance the workload and rotations among FTOs and police officers; ensure work is finished by end of shift and work is performed according to guidelines. You will monitor calls received, ensure appropriate number of vehicles are dispatched to crime/incident scene. Make on-the-spot decisions on out-of-the-ordinary incidents. You will monitor field activities and provide technical guidance/assistance/instruction to police officers; provide technical advice/guidance to police officers on the enforcement of laws, rules and regulations. You will inspect police activities aboard onboard installation to ensure compliance with policies and procedures; inspect physical security of areas, evaluates situations and conditions, identifies deficiencies and recommend corrective actions. You will check on work progress, review incident reports for accuracy; gather and compile statistical information that illustrates criminal activity/trend.

Qualification

GS-09: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-08 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector that provided knowledge of a body of basic laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, practices and techniques and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property. Specialized experience for this position is assisting in the planning and directing of watch activities, preparing absentee reports and watch schedules/lists; deploying police officers on motorized, bicycle, or walking patrols; directing police officers at fixed posts; controlling vehicle and personnel access to the installation; instructing field training officers; monitoring and maintaining criminal activity statistics; receiving reports, maintaining desk journals and ensuring accuracy of paperwork submitted. Additional Conditions of Employment: Employees are subjected to a pre-employment background check and ongoing background checks to affirm employability as a Police Officer. Employee is required to wear an assigned uniform and display official designated items or accessories to include additional required equipment. The employee must follow and adhere to applicable grooming standards for the installation. May be required to respond to off base circumstances as directed by the installation commander, in accordance with USMC and DoD policy. You may be required to respond to off base circumstances as directed by the installation and pass periodic re-tests as required. As first responders to chemical/biological at tacks must be able to train and wear personal protective equipment to include a mask, suit, boots and gloves.

Education

No substitution of education or training may be made for the required specialized experience at the GS-06 level or above.
