Job summary

You will serve as a LEAD ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN in the Engineering and Planning Department (Code 200) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD, working directly for the Chief Engineer (Code 240).

Major duties

You will provide technical guidance in support of shipyard waterfront availabilities, which includes all non-nuclear ship's systems-piping, mechanical components, structural members, electrical systems, combat systems and testing evolutions. You will review, progress and assure timely completion of non-nuclear interface work, completed by the team and as requested by other areas at NNSY. You will coordinate and oversee the continuous overview of ship's systems readiness in order to support key events and production scheduling. You will lead, coach, mentor and develop staff, including overseeing new employee onboarding and providing career development planning and opportunities. You will identify, distribute and balance workload and tasks among employees in accordance with established work flow, skill level and/or occupational specialization. You will be considered the subject matter expert and serve as a mentor to lower level engineers and production workforce regarding assigned project

Qualification

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience managing, coordinating, reviewing and providing expert technical/engineering guidance and advice for complex maintenance, repair, construction and overhaul of a variety of naval vessel classes of conventional and nuclear ships and ability to determine cost and availability of material using various data bases along with ordering requirements, knowledgeable of ordering codes. Experience understanding engineering principles applied to US Naval Ships maintenance, repair and construction, reactor plant fundamentals and operation, processing including engineering, planning, estimating, production, scheduling and testing and the ability to evaluate and apply the latest developments and techniques in solving problems, identify, evaluate and recommend solutions. Experience with the SUBSAFE/Reentry Controls/DSS-SOC/ FBW processes, CVN Propulsion Machinery components and systems, CVN Propulsion Piping components and systems, CVN non-Propulsion Piping components and systems, and Submarine Steering and Diving and Surface Ship Steering systems, components, and hydraulic systems. Experience with technical characteristics, operation, maintenance, repair and modernization of nuclear submarines and aircraft carriers and other non-nuclear surface ships, as well as a thorough knowledge on the location, capacity and availability of shipyard resources, facilities and services. Experience using strong communication skills both written and verbal facilitating clear and effective interactions with team member and stakeholders Experience training and mentoring engineers and technicians in subjects of SUBSAFE Reentry Control and FBW DSS-SOC Systems, CVN Propulsion Components and Systems, CVN Propulsion Piping ad Systems, CVN Non-Propulsion Piping and Systems, and Ships Controls Systems (Submarine Steering and Diving and CVN Steering systems) Experience with leading projects and overseeing the work of subordinates, driving successful outcomes and promoting teamwork.
