About Organization of the Joint Chiefs of Staff

The Joint Staff J6, Deputy Director for Command and Control, Computer, Communication/Cyber (C5) Integration, Architecture Integration Division (AID) is responsible for development of Warfighting Mission Area (WMA) integrated architectures and to provide a comprehensive, discoverable, accessible, reusable, and authoritative database accessible to the Department of Defense (DoD) Enterprise for architecture development and analysis, joint mission thread development from the tactical to strategic level, and architecture analysis support for capability development, assessments, acquisition and Joint Capabilities Integration and Development System (JCIDS) processes.

Job summary

This position is part of the Organization of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The incumbent serves as a senior technical writer with full responsibility for accomplishing all research and writing for the development of a wide variety of joint and allied doctrine publications for which incumbent is assigned development and review responsibility.

Major duties

As a JOINT DOCTRINE ANALYST at the GS-0301-13 some of your typical work assignments may include: Ensures consistency, logic, and rigor in doctrine development along with format and editorial consistency. Establishes and maintains joint doctrine development schedules and maintains standards for research, analysis, clarity of expression, and preparation of written doctrine. Incumbent participates in planning, developing and assessing various aspects of joint and multinational doctrinal publications. As necessary establishes priorities while developing and coordinating multiple joint doctrine analysis and development projects. Assessing Joint Doctrine during global integrated exercises.

Qualification

You may qualify at the GS-13, if you fulfill the following qualifications: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service: Understanding joint, Service, or allied doctrine Combatant Command level operations, multinational operations, whole of government operations, Joint task force operations, or echelon above Corps level Service or equivalent operations. Researching, writing, rewriting, and editing publications that convey DOD-wide/joint concepts and doctrine. Analyzing national policy documents to ensure joint doctrine and multinational doctrine are in compliance. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
