Job summary
About the Position: You will serve as an Information Release Technician (OA) in the Freedom of Information Act/Privacy Acts (FOIA/PA) Division logging in, reviewing, and analyzing FOIA, PA requests, searching for responsive records, preparing reports, correspondence, answering phone calls, etc., and additional as assigned by the Division Chief.
Major duties
Receive and review all incoming Freedom of Information Act/Privacy Act (FOIA/PA) requests. Search all law enforcement databases for responsive records to requests. Prepare correspondence and memorandums. Conduct inquiries and special interest requests received under authority of law or policy. Determine additional contacts and refer requesters to appropriate agencies to coordinate and re-adjust requirement and provide interim replies when unexpected data is revealed, no results are realized, or replies are subject to unavoidable delay. Use knowledge and experience of procedures, record keeping, and automated system search procedures employing variations of search criteria to locate potentially responsive records. Mail correspondence/memorandums/records - utilizing the appropriate method (especially for CLASSIFIED docs), i.e, Registered, Certified.

GS-07: I have one year of specialized experience which includes: perform record keeping and retrieval, utilize automated systems, prepare memorandums, assist with Freedom of Information and Privacy Acts requests, and provide administrative support at the GS-06 level. GS-08: One year of specialized experience which includes: review and analyze records, utilize automated systems, prepare memorandums, assist with Freedom of Information and Privacy Acts requests and appeals, compile information for reports and provide administrative and clerical support at the GS-07 level. These definitions of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Information Management Oral Communication Written Communication Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent. Applicants must meet all eligibility requirements and minimum qualification requirements prescribed by OPM within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
